Oasis are better than the Beatles

Oasis tops Beatles in UK best-album poll

'Definitely Maybe' No. 1, 'Sgt. Pepper' No. 2

LONDON, England (AP) -- "Definitely Maybe," the debut album by Oasis, has beaten the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in a British vote for the greatest album of all time, organizers said Thursday.

The Beatles also took third place with "Revolver" and had three other albums in the Top 100 in the vote staged by British Hit Singles & Albums, an annual publication, and NME.com.

The vote was announced in last year's edition of British Hit Singles & Albums, said editor David Roberts. Anyone could vote for as many as 10 albums, in rank order, and probably 95 percent of the 40,000 votes came from Britain, he said.

The biggest surprise, in Roberts' view, was The Libertines' debut album, "Up the Bracket," at No. 15 -- a strong showing he attributed to singer Pete Doherty's well-publicized involvement with supermodel Kate Moss and his arrests for alleged drug use.

Other albums on the list include U2's "The Joshua Tree" (No. 11), Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (No. 35), the Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main Street," (No. 42), The White Stripes' "Elephant" (No. 59), Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" (No. 84) and the Eagles' "Hotel California" (No. 100).

The top 10:

1. "Definitely Maybe," Oasis.

2. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," The Beatles.

3. "Revolver," The Beatles.

4. "OK Computer," Radiohead.

5. "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" Oasis.

6. "Nevermind," Nirvana.

7. "The Stone Roses," The Stone Roses.

8. "Dark Side of the Moon," Pink Floyd.

9. "The Queen Is Dead," The Smiths.

10. "The Bends," Radiohead.

I'd be interested to see the demographics of the voters. Did anybody over 30 even vote?

Oasis is garbage, pure horseshyte.

How can these British focks not have a single Stones album on their top 10?

and Sgt. Peppers is the most overrated album of all time, with Nevermind being second.

Great list. Brits have better music and better taste in music than they do here.

Oasis are gayer than the Beatles

That is quite the statement. Hard to beat the Beatles in gayness.

Definitely Maybe and WTSMG were pretty focking good.

Though they went way to sh1t after that.

Live Forever and SuperSonic are a couple of my favorite songs

I like when they had to use subtitles to understand those two on Behind The Music.  And they were letting their racism flag fly.

Nobody could pull this look off besides Liam

Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you."

What a time to be alive in college in the early 90s when new music was worth listening to.

A lot of new music is still worth listening to, but you got to look for it.

I feel like the early nineties is what killed rock as the dominant mainstream music.

I don’t think grunge was fun to listen to. Too bad the lasting remnant of it is Dave Grohl.

I seriously doubt they would get the same results today. But in the UK, who knows?

I see the OP was last here in 2011 (probably hiding out of embarrassment for not making the thread title a question).

I just described this thread to my wife.

Me:  "There is a thread about the band Oasis."

Her:  "The band who?"

They were completely not on our radar when the first two albums came out in 94-95, and we were in our 20s, just married, no kids, listening to music, so they should have been.  I played some of each of the top 5 streams from Spotify:  other than Wonderwall {which got an "oh yeah, whatever" reaction), we didn't even recognize the other songs.  Slow, not musical... maybe they write awesome lyrics?

Putting these two albums in the top 5 all time, with one at #1, is a traveshamockery of music.  :(

Oasis had two great albums. The Beatles altered music forever.

The only close argument on this is comparison to Led Zeppelin, my favorite band of all time. But Beatles were far more influential.

Beatles are No. 1, and Rolling Stones, Zeppeln and Who are distant seconds.
