I am watching it again. It was funny when Romney owned him on the oil production and the pipe line and all that sh1t Obama had a chance respond and said lets talk about taxes. :overhead:

Obama's only chance to win a debate is to go negative and he lost that chance tonight as Mitt controlled the debate. He possayed out and agreed way to much with the superior candidate in Romney. Obamas lack of experience showed and Mitt was hitting on all cylinders. The next debate will be all negative on Obama's part and Mitt has the advantage if he plays it correctly. Game on.

It's Mitts to lose at this point.

Romney won the debate. He wasn't fantastic, but on the other side Obama needed to be bolder and more energetic. Seems like Obama's trying to run out the clock on this election, but we all know what can happen when you start playing prevent defense a little too early.

Things Romney did well:

- seemed to come up with a lot of the detail that he has been lacking...certainly was tossing a lot of numbers and statistics out there anyway

- actually defended his tax plan well, which surprised me because I thought he had a major uphill battle there. I still don't believe the math adds up but he did a good job coming back at Obama on that

- seemed like he belonged on the stage with Obama and didn't commit any gaffes

Things Obama did well:

- challenged Mitt's Medicare policy. Kept emphasizing that AARP was with him and not Mitt, which is a big deal for the senior citizen vote

- defended Obamacare effectively... did a good job of pointing out that mitt hasn't really explained what he would " replace" obamacare with.

Like I said, a win for Mitt. Not a huge victory but I bet we will see the race tighten up after tonight. The home stretch will be big for both campaigns, and Obama needs to quit acting like this thing is already over.

And bringing up the 8 billion in lost revenues to the green energy folks/businesses that could have been spent on teachers was crassic. Obama was pissed beyond belief. That "How dare you" attitude is going to sink his sorry skiiny ass as the election carrries on.

I know I've asked this a few times (and I don't expect the one liner and link regurgitator tards like RP, Phurfur and Drobs to respond with anything of substance), but as an independent voter I REALLY want to know what you conservative geeks like about Romney. I already know what you all don't like about Obama. I read it over and over... and over every day. Maybe one of you who aren't half retarded or fed mooching cripples could shed some light. Jerry? Dank?

Obama needs a new bumper sticker slogan. Got any ideas Worms?

Watching him listen to his advisers and supporters over the next few days is going to be brutal. Since you like him, what would your advice be? Go negative? Go facts? Act like he's involved and not above these pesky debates that inform the voters even though he acts like he is above them?

Mitt is in the drivers seat as of now. Obama is going to need a miracle to fool the voters once again. As much as I rail about how stoopid and ignorant most voters are, they don't get fooled again.

Tonight made me really curious to hear Romney talk about his foreign policy stances in a debate setting. I understand Ron Paul's non-interventionist philosophy and basically respect and connect with it, but Romney's soberness on that front (from when it was briefly touched on tonight) makes me want to hear him out. I get the impression he has strong, nuanced thoughts there, bordering on conviction.

Obama is to busy and tired of this nonsense of debating. He's so above it and it showed tonight. Forget the facts that Romney was ready to debate a sitting president that has the bully pulpate and a media that does his bidding for him. Romney should have just thrown in the towel to a man of Obama's presence and bowed down to the greatest politician that ever lived. Romney should have bowed down to him on the stage as he was introduced and given grandma jeans a reach around.

The stage has been set and Romney is in the lead. He has set the stage for the next two debates and the VP debate is going to be a joke for the dems. This sh!t couldn't get more comical.

About Romney? I like the framework of his healthcare bill in masshole. I like his record on state job creation and education funding. I like that he's a successful businessman. I like that his record is generally very moderate.

What about you? Also curious who you supported in the primaries?

I think he really cares. I think it shows in the way he left Bain to save the Olympics, and then became Governor of Mass. I think it shows in the way he has served his church in helping other people, REAL people vs. the hypothetical, through his church. I think his business experience of analyzing situations and determining appropriate courses of actions is a unique capability given our problems. I think he is a true problem solver who has struggled with the requirements of the party to tow a more conservative ideologue platform, and when in office will revert to the right-leaning moderate I think he really is.

If you really care and are open to considering him, read and watch the videos on Glenn Beck's site. My link If after that you think Obama is a better solution for our country, then go for it.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/03/cnn-poll-romney-wins-debate-by-big-margin/

Denver, Colorado (CNN) – Two-thirds of people who watched the first presidential debate think that Republican nominee Mitt Romney won the showdown, according to a nationwide poll conducted Wednesday night.

According to a CNN/ORC International survey conducted right after the debate, 67% of debate watchers questioned said that the Republican nominee won the faceoff, with one in four saying that President Barack Obama was victorious.

"No presidential candidate has topped 60% in that question since it was first asked in 1984," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

More than six in ten said that president did worse than expected, with one in five saying that Obama performed better than expected. Compare that to the 82% who said that Romney performed better than expected. Only one in ten felt that the former Massachusetts governor performed worse than expected.

as a completely unbiased, undecided as of right now, I am heavily swayed towards Mitt, before this debate I was 75% leaning towards Obama. Mitt seemed, strong, hungry, and like someone who is prepared to lead this country. I feel truly surprised that Obama didnt try to throw Bin laden in there more just to justify his last 4 yrs in office

I went from 75% Obama to 75% Mitt, based on the appearance and performance of this 1 debate. I am 99% positive that Ryan will destroy Biden as well, so if other undecideds are in the same boat as me, waiting to see the debates, this could be a good sign for Mitt.

Obama, kept trying to attack, and was shot down so fast it was funny

Romney while not giving his exact plans, at least appears willing to be a bi-partisan leader, and Obama was completely unable to defend himself on any of what Romney threw at him

How many times have you been kicked in the head by a mule? I'd put that number at about 28. Coincidentally, 28 is also the amount of times you tried to stick your tiny pud inside a mule.

Chris Matthews is having a stroke. Ya gotta watch the video in the link. :pointstosky:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/10/03/chris_matthews_freaks_out_at_obama_after_debate_romney_was_winning.html

"Tonight wasn't an MSNBC debate tonight, was it?" Chris Matthews said after the first Obama-Romney presidential debate concluded on Wednesday night.

"I don't know what he was doing out there. He had his head down, he was enduring the debate rather than fighting it. Romney, on the other hand, came in with a campaign. He had a plan, he was going to dominate the time, he was going to be aggressive, he was going to push the moderator around, which he did effectively, he was going to relish the evening, enjoying it," Matthews said.

"Here's my question for Obama: I know he likes saying he doesn't watch cable television but maybe he should start. Maybe he should start. I don't know how he let Romney get away with the crap he throughout tonight about Social Security," Matthews complained.

Matthews then demanded that President Obama start watching cable news, specifically his program.

"Where was Obama tonight? He should watch -- well, not just Hardball, Rachel, he should watch you, he should watch the Reverend Al [sharpton], he should watch Lawrence. He would learn something about this debate. There's a hot debate going on in this country. You know where it's been held? Here on this network is where we're having the debate," Matthews said.

"We have our knives out," Matthews said, admitting his network is trying their best to defend Obama and his policies. "We go after the people and the facts. What was he doing tonight? He went in there disarmed."

"He was like, 'Oh an hour and half? I think I can get through this thing. And I don't even look at this guy.' Whereas Romney -- I love the split-screen -- staring at Obama, addressing him like prey. He did it just right. 'I'm coming at an incumbent. I got to beat him. You've got to beat the champ and I'm going to beat him tonight. And I don't care what this guy, the moderator, whatever he thinks he is because I'm going to ignore him," Matthews said.

"What was Romney doing?" Matthews asked. "He was winning."

"If he does five more of these nights, forget it," Matthews added. "Obama should watch MSNBC, my last point. He will learn something every night on this show and all these shows. This stuff we're watching, it's like first grade for most of us. We know all this stuff."

I'd agree with this. It was a really good night for Romney.

Now if his camp (Mitt mostly) can just not do anything stupid for a week, I'd think they'd be in great shape heading into the Ryan/Bidden showdown. With a complete @ss whoopin by Ryan, which I think is very possible, We'll have an actuall race on our hands.

I think you are overstating the effect this debate will have on the race. I believe it will give Mitt a small boost and an opening to do more. I don't think it puts Mitt fully in the "driver's seat", as you say. So I definitely don't want the Obama campaign to panic and overreact.

But I would like to see a greater sense of urgency from them, and Obama needs to come to the next debate fired up. Not in a fake way (that would backfire), but in a real, engaging way. I don't think he should go excessively negative as that would turn off voters, but he did have some chances to land a few body blows against Mitt last night and passed them up. I hope that doesn't happen again.

I'm guessing Team Obama is pressing to have teleprompters at the next debate. :music_guitarred:

The next one is a town hall format; that should be a stronger format for Obama, even without his teleprompters.
