This is easily the worst top ten in the 16 years I've covered so far. Just terrible. Anyway....

Never liked the corny "That's What Friends Are For"... Say You Say Me was my least favorite of the Lionel Richie hits. And I Miss You was a cookie cutter boo hoo ballad. Those three are all horrible.

I like just about everything Michael McDonald sings, and On My Own is no exception. He kills it on that song. This was written by Burt Bacharach (as was "Friends" above). As were most of us at this time, I was in love with Whitney Houston. However, I usually liked her ballads more.. This one was just okay. Party All the Time isn't so bad if you think of it as a Rick James song and not Eddie Murphy. James wrote and produced it, and it does have a pretty cool rhythm. And the Survivor tune is just alright. Can't compare to the other Rocky soundtrack cut that they did.

To me, it's between the two Mr Mister songs and Robert Palmer. I really like the opening bass line of Broken Wings. And the Palmer video was epic and still very famous. But my favorite from this very weak list is Kyrie. Always really liked that one.

I went with Whitney as IMO that was the original Whitney Houston song that sparked her rise to fame. the 80's definitely have fallen on the downward slide.

My God, this is the worst group of crap I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm going to have to listen to all of these songs back to back and see which makes me feel the least like vomiting.

The Mr.mr. songs were close but Palmers Hotty robot chicks pushed it over the edge. I actually stopped at Addicted to Love on the commute last week. Actually aged pretty good.

In a year of bad choices, I have to go with the one that creates the greatest memories. Watch the following video and this contest is over.

I gave each song about 1 minute to hook me, as my stomach was starting to turn by the end. I went with Addicted to Love, the best in a really poor showing.

For the 16th straight time I recuse myself from picking anything out of the top 10.

But for the 10th time I did find something in the top 100.

# 91 Your Wildest Dreams by Moody Blues (if you haven't watched the youtube video of this, go do it - you'll really dig it)

Btw, the Rolling Stones were as good as ever last night. Didn't sit in the first row but row 12 on the floor, stage left wasn't bad.

There was a buzz going round that Obama and John McCain were sitting together but I didn't see either. My daughter and I had our pics taken outside the Verizon Center on F Street. I had a big red tongue logo but they wouldn't let me take it inside.

Excuse me young man but that Stevie Winwood song is Higher Love / not Lover.

And it sucks so bad it's hard to believe he's the same guy who did Dear Mr. Fantasy. And if you don't think THAT is a good tune, watch him and Slowhand do it on youtube from Madison Square Garden.

Addicted to Love is flat out horrible. Take away the video and you have a plodding rock wannabe, that is lyrically challenged.

The 2nd 10 laps the 1st.

Kiss - great song.

Higher Love - acceptable.

Alive and Kicking - fine.

What a pathetic list, my god that was a bad year for music. Run DMC was the sh!t at that point, and Beastie Boys had their album out that fall as I recall....that was almost all i listened to anyway.....

I went for Robert Palmer, that video was the poop, and the song wasn't too bad I guess

Some other notable songs that didn't reach the top twenty in 1986:

Holding Back the Years- Simply Red

Sledgehammer- Peter Gabriel

Rock Me Amadeus- Falco

You Give Love a Bad Name- Bon Jovi

Don't Forget me (When I'm Gone)- Glass Tiger

Conga- Miami Sound Machine

No One Is To Blame- Howard Jones

Walk of Life- Dire Straits

Invisible touch- Genesis

If You Leave- OMD

What You Need- INXS

Take Me Home Tonight- Eddie Money

Your Love- The outfield

Word Up- Cameo

Why Can't This Be Love- Van Halen

Life In a Northern Town- Dream Academy

Tonight She Comes- The Cars

Your Wildest Dreams- Moody Blues

Seems there were a few good ones bubbling under that may have saved 1986 from being a total disaster.

You Give Love a Bad name (Bon Jovi)-- #30 on your list but # 5 or 8 on 2 other lists ??????????

If given this as a choice it would be a no brainer.

I use the year-end Billboard top 100. That is widely held as the final word in music charts. It's not # 1 on the charts until it's #1 on Billboard.
