The latest victim of the growing controversy over the Confederate flag is the 1980s TV series The Dukes of Hazzard.

A TV Land spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that the network has pulled reruns of the series from its schedule, which had been airing twice a day.

The network declined to comment on why the episodes were removed, but the South-set show has come under fire recently for its use of the Confederate flag, which is emblazoned on the roof of the Duke Boys signature 1969 orange Dodge Charger.

Warner Bros., which owns The Dukes of Hazzard, last week halted production on toy replicas of the car dubbed the General Lee. That followed moves by other retailers such as Walmart and eBay to stop selling items bearing the Stars and Bars after the deadly church shooting in Charleston, SC, in June.

This is exactly what people aren't getting. Growing up in the South I never equated that flag with hate. It was a southern pride thing and never did I ever think that flag = racists. If you ever watched that show, it was a family show, about good morals and southern living with some comedy and making fun of themselves at times (Cooter and the fat redneck sherrif). It had zero to due with hate.

 

Certain racists groups take the confederate flag as part of their "brand" but that is not what it means to everyone. I get that it does for some, which is why it should be taken down form a Government building, but all this other stuff is just damn nonsense.

Did you notice that the car in the commercial did not have a flag on the roof? When I saw it a couple of weeks ago, I got p!ssed off at the gutless commercial.

 

CMT channel runs Dukes marathons constantly. I wonder if they dare to pull it. It's got to be one of their most popular shows.

Anybody else watch the spin off series with Enos? I did. The gimmick was the city cop would put out his hand to Enos for a "gimme five", while country bumpkin cop Enos would give a thumps up and place the thumbs up entire hand on top of black cop's open palm. Awkward. Every episode. No laughs to be found.

Well, as much as the show sucked ass, the Cosby show didn't have much to do with the drugging and rayping, but it's still off the air too.

This! Hell, growing up in California I viewed, and still do, the Stars-n-Bars as a rebel flag, akin to the Gadsden flag.
