tanatastic 2,062 Posted August 7, 2015 So GFIAFPs welfare themed ball park thread got me thinking about one of my fav foods, hot dogs. Always loved em, always will. A mans food. What are your fav store brands? How do you prefer them topped? Best dog you ever had? Im partial to Nathans brand. I used to be a hebrew national man but nathans was a cut above. I usually go with just mustard, thats it. In hawaii I had an amazing dog at the famed Puka dog in kauai and it blew me away. sweet hawaiian roll with amazing sweet mustard and relish. Never forget that place and it was even reccomended by another geek.
IGotWorms 4,057 Posted August 7, 2015 Hebrew National. I like to believe that they aren't as nasty as most hotdogs as far as what goes into them.
tubby_mcgee 700 Posted August 7, 2015 Locally made at butcher shop. One here makes them with 100% beef. (93% lean). Protein 21g Fat 7g Pretty good for a "hot dog". They don't look, feel or remind me of a hot dog in any way. They are brat sized and smoked. I grill them til I get to 170 degrees or higher. I don't really eat store brand hot dogs. If I had to go store brand, I'd go like...maybe Hebrew or Nathans.I'd go with what looked the best, and had 100% beef on the label. Worst hot dogs ever: Red ones. I remember them from grade school. Do they even exist anymore?
wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 7, 2015 Hormel Wranglers are the best I've ever had. All beef, grape snap to them. But kind of hard to find. Lately, I've been going with your child chow, think spicy relish and siracha. That's all I need.

wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 7, 2015 As much as I want to, I just cannot get on the Chicago hot dog bandwagon. I don't want a quarter of the tomato On my hot dog. There's just too much going on there Might as well not even have thefrank.
Cruzer 1,995 Posted August 7, 2015 It doesn't really matter, all long as it's beef I guess. I mean, it is just a dog after all. Mustard, onion, cheese, diced Serranos is my go to, but I enjoy all kinds. As long as it doesn't have ketchup that is.
wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 7, 2015 As I have aged, my tastes have really changed. I used to hate sauerkraut, and now it's one of my favorite condiments on a hot dog.
wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 7, 2015 In Houston, I had this cooked that would wrap bacon around a hot dog And deep fried for me And then put American cheese on it All it needed beyond that was some siracha and it was freaking brilliant.
tubby_mcgee 700 Posted August 7, 2015 Is this a thing I should ask my local meat guy to do ? Never thought about it besides seeing the sausages they put out. What should I ask for? I don't know. I would think they have all the equipment. If you were really interested, I could give you the name, and your meat guy could call them and say "I'm from_______ and we have a meat shop. I have heard good things about your All Beef Franks and All Beef Weiners" (one of them is skinny and long, one is brat sized. I think the brat sized are "weiners"). What's your secret? " When I get them, they are vacuum sealed. I bought 25 lbs last times out. They come in packs of 5. So...I take them right from freezer to grill. Since they all all beef, they will last over a year in freezer. Grill up very nice. They don't drip fat an cause flames, they get a nice little crispy texture on the outside. wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 7, 2015 While we are at it, not a huge fan of the bratwurst. I would much rather have an Italian sausage Or even a Polish sausage Then a flavorless bratwurst. That Midwest palette is pretty lame.

That Midwest palette is pretty lame. I never got this either. They are boring and devoid of flavor.. Maybe I'm just used to hot links, chorizo and Andouille down here.

Herbivore 1,119 Posted August 7, 2015 not too partial to a particular brand. All beef with a crisp snap is always good. On it, diced onions, pickles(not sweet), and mustard. This place is pretty good though too. http://www.floshotdogs.com/

phillybear 366 Posted August 7, 2015 Did someone say hotdogs? :hyper: Yes. As in "throwing a hotdog into a shipping container". You'd think it would be the old stalwart "hallway", but to be honest, a hallway typically doesn't reek of the ocean.

The Moz 69 Posted August 7, 2015 In High School we used to go to TJ becasue the drinking age was 18. A street peddler would come out with Bacon Dogs and we would get them on the way going from Bar to Bar (while trying to dodge little messicans trying to pick pocket you) . I do not want to know what was in them or how bad for me they were -- but being drunk and hungry those were the best dogs I ever had. I just hope they wern't really..... dogs

DankNuggs 305 Posted August 8, 2015 Nathan's, yellow mustard, sweet relish. Old school good But on the sausage tangent. I grabbed a pack of Chinese sausage and grilled them up. Tastes like boneless spare ribs in sausage form. Really good, really bad for you.

wiffleball 4,788 Posted August 8, 2015 Kids and Blacks put ketchup on hot dogs. Yeah kind of have to agree. The older I get the more understand the anti ketchup movement. Still, Narrowly :beats the Boat person's version Including mayonnaise.
GobbleDog 987 Posted August 8, 2015 I eat like a kid... hate most toppings. I did become partial to relish years back. Then one day while I was 7-11 adding my relish, I noticed some onions had spilled over into the relish dish and there was nothing I could do. So I just ate them. After that I realized I loved onions. Mustard, relish and onions.
