- POLE: greatest Rolling Stones tune

Recommended Posts

Not a huge Stones fan. My favorite is Can't You Hear Me Knockin, followed by Sympathy.

I think musically Can't You Hear me Knocking is tops. Best Stones solo from Mick Taylor and added musicians Bobby Keys on sax and Bill Preston on keys.

My favorite, however, is Brown Sugar right from the opening guitar hook.

Shelter, Sympathy , Paint it Black at the top

Pretty much this.

This is an impossible thread. Damn I love the Stones.

The issue is that the mega hits like Honkey Tonk Woman, Brown Sugar, and Satisfaction are completely amazing. They are just so overplayed that we are sick of them. But go back and read the lyrics of Brown Sugar and tell me 1. They aren't amazing, and 2. How offensive our current culture would consider them. Great songs.

That being said, my quick list, many of which have been named, n no particular order:

-Paint it Black

-Tumbling Dice

-Midnight Rambler (live)

-Sister Morphine

-Heartbreaker

-Dead Flowers

-Sympathy For the Devil

-Miss You

-Gimme Shelter

If there was an actula pole, it would be like the 11teenth time we have had this pole.

The winner is:

Gimme Shelter

Next you should do "Best actor in a role, in the last 50 years?"

Hard to deny Anthony Hopkins as Hanibal Lechter in Silence of the Lambs, but I make a pretty good argument for the late Robert Shaw as Quint in Jaws.

I can do the "You know waht you look like to me, Clarice ..." monologue from Silence in 3 different impersonations. The worst one is my Anthony Hopkins, but I also do it as Robert Shaw, and of course ... Christopher Walken. "Ya knowa ... whatcha look like ... Ta me. Ya look like a rube."

Robert Shaw ... had he been alive, would have been perfect for that role. Course you would hafta Art Direct it differently, he wouldn't be so ... snobby.

impossible to pick just one. A couple of my favorites not yet mentioned in this thread:

Respectable

When the Whip Comes Down

Happy

Before They Make Me Run

Little T&A.

Last three feature Keiff on lead vocals, which can be brutal and awesome at the same time.

fixed

I have heard of them, I play them all the time when I DJ.

I don't like them and find them wildly overrated

Isn't it usually customary to actually put a "poll" in the thread, when the title says "pole"? :dunno:

- nah, read the first post ... I said it wasn't really a pole.

was sh1tfaced on bourbon, and strumming some 'Sister Morphine' on my stoop ... ergo, my post/proclamation that it is greatest ever.

then I posted my favorites after that.

ehhh. 👍
