nobody 2,567 Posted August 29, 2016 I'd have more respect for him if he did more than protest. Get out there and do something about it. What? I don't know. But maybe show your face in these crime ridden communities that are being oppressed. Get some of your league mates involved....if they still respect you. Protesting the way he did does nothing but divide people. Find a way to unite. Oh and MJ, this goes for you too. Take your $$ and shove it where the sun don't shine. Get out there and talk to the oppressed....face to face. Well, there's 2 things: 1. It wasn't like he's walking to midfield and staging a sit in. He didn't advertise it at all. Some reporter probably thought he was pouting about being the number 2 or something and asked him about it. 2. He's using his position to shed light on the problem. Forcing people to face the issue is probably the most powerful thing he can do.

Counterpoint is if you're the 49ers or any employer for that matter, you'd rather your employees not use the workplace to make political statements, but keep in mind he just converted to Islam (for a chick - what a dumbass), so people are probably telling him America is evil and stuff, so to him, he is simply not standing up to honor a symbol of something he thinks is wrong. He probably thinks he's Muhammad Ali refusing to go fight the Vietnam War.

Brad GLuckman 519 Posted August 29, 2016 I guess I'm wondering why everybody is so outraged about it in the first place. Most people, including myself, feel hes just a spoiled d-bag. I also feel the people filming themselves burning his jersey while saluting the flag and listening to the anthem are ridiculous.

Hardcore troubadour 14,953 Posted August 30, 2016 Put on the NFL network and who do I see preaching about social justice ect? Jim Brown. Ray Rice wasn't available? The NFL is so full of it, and they and now their players are doing their best to turn people off.
KSB2424 3,148 Posted August 30, 2016 Are you really that dense? It's not an awful point/question. People raise a big stink when "freedom of speech" turns into demeaning others (slurs) or causing panic/injury (fire in theatre) or inciting violence. Blatenly disrespecting something a lot of people truly hold dear (and have had family members fight for) on a national stage isn't quite on par with that above. But it's not all that far off. Count me in the group where this thread shouldn't be 12 pages and it's been overblown. But what isn't these days? The thread title is accurate. Nothing more really needed to be said. Saint Elistan 106 Posted August 30, 2016 Saint Elistan, how long before you drop your sig line? KAEP N CRUNCH I'm too lazy and it's much more exciting to live in the recent past when SF was still good. Prolly have to when he gets cut. Maybe change crunch to something more fitting and punny. The NFL prefers that their cash-cows keep their lips shut.

Gepetto 1,291 Posted August 30, 2016 Black people make up a large percentage of the athletic community, but only a small percentage of the coaching and front office positions in every league. Why should people that played the sport be the same people that coach, manage and own it? Completely different skill sets. The coaches are represented probably about the same as the percentage of white vs black in the overall population. The high percentage of black football players compared to white is probably because they have an inherent genetic advantage athletically or more interest in football or both. The problem is that he is a privileged biracial man and it backfired on him. If I am wrong and people are having meaningful conversations about blacks being executed by the police, let me know. mighty_thor 115 Posted August 30, 2016 I'm saying he's a douche-bag hypocrite. He's one of the most privileged people in the entire world and it's because of the country he lives in. He's willing to take the benefits but not honor the sacrifices that have been made to have it. There are other things he can do that don't involve being disrespectful to those that have sacrificed, are currently sacrificing, and will sacrifice in the future. Like I said, he's got the right to do this but that does not include the right to not be called an a-hole for it. Edited to add: You can take that racist crap and shove it. Don't twist my words to fit your narrative. He is risking a lot financially by taking his stand. He may get cut by the 49ers (mostly based on his play), but he would likely get picked up by another team as a backup. But teams will think twice before picking him up now. They don't want to deal with the sideshow for a backup qb.
