wiffleball 4,788 Posted September 1, 2016 Why do we give sh!t if he sits and why do we even want to know his reasons for doing so? Football is not war, and has nothing to do with the government or the military. Standing for the National Anthem is just a patriotic custom that most people observe at the beginning of each game. I happen to like it, but I couldn't care less if a wash out 9er QB wants to sit in protest. People really need to find some real problems to focus on. This isn't one. I understand your POV, however: I think it speaks more to team unity than patriotism. Pretty much my belief is that anytime you're doing something to keep the camera and attention focused upon you (and make no mistake, that's what he did), you're taking away from your team. As far as I know, there's no rule that you HAVE to run out with your team when announced at the beginning of the game, but what would you say about the guy who didn't? What would you say about the guy who refused to join in the huddle - even if he knew what the play was? What about the guy who refused to wear a suit when traveling (I 'get' it's usually a rule - but WTF does it have to do with the play on the field?) How about a guy who after the team won, decided to give a long winded speech about the Ivory trade in Africa and Asia? How about the guy who knocked over all the gatorade cups because he believed HFCS was silently contributing to diabetes in black men? Or the guy who spent every huddle with his hands up (don't shoot)?

peenie 1,905 Posted September 1, 2016 CHICAGO — In a city wrestling with a rise in gun violence and turmoil in its police department, August seemed like the longest month. By midnight on Wednesday, 90 murders had occurred in August alone, making it the deadliest month in Chicago in about 20 years. Chicago, the nation’s third-largest city, has experienced more homicides this year than the bigger cities of Los Angeles and New York combined. The number of deaths here this year, 471, is about 50 percent higher than the same period a year earlier. Nonfatal shootings have risen at a similar rate. More than 2,300 shootings have taken place so far this year, mostly on the South and West Sides and most of them involving African-Americans. This is the most important thing that black people...all people should be concerned about. We need to be angry and hyped up about this. There is nothing wrong with trying to end police brutality, but this is far more devastating to all communities and needs more of our attention.

penultimatestraw 473 Posted September 2, 2016 Then why hasn't he been sitting his entire life? He hasn't been aware of the problems he is protesting his entire life and/or the problems have taken a greater significance recently?
Brad GLuckman 519 Posted September 2, 2016 I don't mind the protest I don't like protesting the end result of police shootings as the problem in Black America. If your only concern is what authorities do and you're going to nitpick every decision every use of force every procedure they do we are never going to get anywhere. What needs to happen is to get on the front end of the problems in the black community and these things have nothing to do with white people or police. If Colin wants to help he can do it pretty easily. He should take 1 million dollars and devoted 2 local schools to help fix them up. This would help with the almost 50% Dropout rates in the black community. He should then take another million dollars and devote it to either a center or speak himself about single family homes that are destroying the black community at almost 70%. He should then take million and start up several businesses in poor communities to get these people jobs. It would help educate, employ and teach young black men about the power of family. All of these would reduce crime and awful interactions with police and put money back into their communities. You can't just focus on police actions because you can tweak a bunch of things but you still have a pipeline of dumbass kids who are uneducated not working and poor coming down the pipeline that you'll never stop Looks like hes planning on something along those lines https://mobile.twitter.com/SakamotoRyan/status/771584915867508736/video/

I remember his playoff run a few years ago when he looked like he could throw the ball like prime era Favre and run like Randall Cunningham. Now he's completely washed up. Wtf? Same thing with RG3. Teams adjusted to him by giving different looks and everyone realized that these guys had never had to read a defense. Just lining up in a different formation was enough to confuse them into submission. After his kneel last night, Kaep appears to have painted himself into a corner. Needs therapy more than anything. The difference(s) between Kaep and guys like RG3 and Vick is that Kaep looked damn good throwing the ball and had the size to withstand taking hits when he decided to run. He looked like the next great QB in the league for a stretch there. Now he looks like someone who will be out of football in a couple seasons.

RLLD 4,143 Posted September 2, 2016 I always thought his heritage was native American, did realize it was not. I thought he had a chance to be a good QB in the league for a few years, but I guess defensive coordinators figured him out and he no adjustment to what they are doing. I watched his Nevada team get mauled by Maryland a number of years back in a bowl game, though he was impressive then as well.

wiffleball 4,788 Posted September 2, 2016 I remember posting a story years back about a white cop who got drunk at a bar, beat the shiit out of a 105lb white girl bartender, threatened everyone else, then sent his brothers in blue back to threaten the BT that they would plant drugs on her and throw her in jail if she said anything. Nothing happened to the guy really. I don't remember Peenie being upset about that. Darn my memory. I guess only Black Lives Matter.

(Oh, and BTW, his jackassery is what got Darrent Williams killed. The bullet was meant for Marshall. It's in publicly available court documents) But it turns out today that if you're black and have those characteristics, you have a PERSONALITY DISORDER. huh, and we used to just call it being an axxhole... wiffleball 4,788 Posted September 2, 2016 Even though I started this thread, I will be intellectually honest enough to note that: This story has all kinds of talk and legs. However, the story of the NFL franchises charging the military for patriotic displays at the start of games - and those heartwarming half time reunions with families got next to diick in coverage. In fact, most of you don't even know the story Im guessing. The franchises quietly (allegedly) stopped that practice and of course, ESPN said diddly diick. So, as much as I want to punch Kap in the face, it ain't for not being patriotic. I'll leave that up to the Dixie Chick haters. But in the meantime, 'his' story gets all the airtime and the billionaires who charged our military millions - dollars that could have gone to veterans, to soldier's families housing? To better equipment? - Walk away scott free. THAT's the story that should be told. Geesus, I want a job at ESPN - which i would lose before I got my second interview. I just think that there are bigger issues and I'd like to see as much effort energy devoted to stopping violence in the cities in which we live. That incident looks horrible but we still never saw the entire video. As for my statistic it's just logical. I have a feeling that the number is far less than what I actually put. That would be 1 police brutality case out of every 1000 police interactions. When in all likelihood nationwide it's probably more like 1 in a 100k. The number is so low they are more isolated incidents then just grouped up police brutality I will do more research on how many cops annually have been charged with police brutality and how many interactions they actually have

wiffleball 4,788 Posted September 3, 2016 I see a nice looking guy standing with a white family. Wholesome? How would you know? Well lets see: The first 'wholesome' black family we ever saw, turns out Dad is a serial rapist. Then Will Smiff had his mother replaced after one year. That's pretty brutal. And why is it you never see Black couples adopting ? I mean Brangelina adopted half of Darfur for Pete's sake. Hell, we can't even get black fathers to take care of their OWN kids. And why is it that George never knocked up his wife? I mean, how time consuming IS dry cleaning anyway? He probably had a bunch of Asians doing all the work. And don't even get me started on the Good Times Family. (because I don't know) And you KNOW Todd Bridges drilled his half-sister Dana Plato every chance he got. Now a good wholesome family is like that family from Seventh Heaven - err - well, minus the paedo Dad....
