A stage IV cancer support group may help you either online and or real life. People who understand because they live it too and can provide support and advice that people who aren't battling stage IV wouldn't think of. Artista 460 Posted November 9, 2017 Be careful about taking too much Motrin, as it promotes bleeding (among other things). If your pain is severe, you should be offered narcotics. Now I know all about how opioids are overprescribed, the epidemic of addiction, etc., but cancer pain is still a very legitimate reason for strong pain meds. In the old days docs were overly reluctant to prescribe them, then a campaign to manage pain as the "fifth vital sign" promoted their overuse, and now the pendulum is swinging back the other other way. Of course, there are potential side effects to manage if you get placed on stronger pain meds. Med MJ is +/- for pain management. Not sure what you mean about long term plans, but you really need to make an advance directive and designate a surrogate decision maker. This x 100. Get ahead of the pain. Ask for a narcotic. When on chemo, stay on top of nausea meds, even if you don't feel it, take it. Hopefully the hospital you are at has chemo class. It really helped prepare and get things I needed before I was needing it. Had lots of stuff on hand before starting, like soups and simple foods you like, plastic utensils, etc. If you post how you're doing/side effects I may be able to give you tips from having learned from fellow cancer patients that helped. I just saw your sig. Take that out. You need to have the thinking that you are going to be ned (no evidence of disease for a long time or you are starting off defeated my friend. I have a stage IV breast cancer friend who was diagnosed April 2016 with it and mets everwhere. She's hanging in still posting on the boards. Other stage IV with mets all over have beat the timeline docs gave by more than a year. So you just don't know how long you will go with stage IV. Do get your things in order as stated. This is something we all should be doing so loved ones won't be left wondering what your wishes are. Another thing. Apply for ssdi as soon as you know when you'll stop working.
