NorthernVike 2,081 Posted March 21, 2018 No, I'm not talking about the San Andreas Fault or Oldmaids vajayjay. I'm talking about the states sanctuary laws. It seems at least one community has some sense of right or wrong. Los Alamitos A city in California has voted to opt out of the state's so-called sanctuary laws. The city council in Los Alamitos, a city located in Orange County, voted 4 to 1 earlier this week to opt out of the law, CNBC reported. "This is important for us, for our city, for our community," Warren Kusumoto, the mayor pro tempore of Los Alamitos said ahead of the vote. Kusumoto talked about the importance of the local measure, citing "a conflict between two governing documents - the Constitution of the United States and the state constitution itself." The city's mayor said he has received calls from other city council members and mayors that are "interesting in being part of this." "They really want to know what was the process and are trying to get advice on how to go to the next steps," Mayor Troy Edgar said. In order for the order to take effect, a second vote must be held, according to CNBC. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/city-in-california-votes-to-exempt-itself-from-states-sanctuary-law/ar-BBKv2lf?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=ientp Let the dominos fall. Other cities with some common sense are bound to follow suit. USA

NorthernVike 2,081 Posted March 21, 2018 Of course the State and the ACLU are threatening them with lawsuits. “Local governments that attempt to break state law will saddle their residents with unnecessary and expensive litigation costs.” The city should start a GoFundMe account. It would be the first GoFundMe I'd ever donated to if they did. You could do it on their behalf and take 10% off the top. Do it.

iam90sbaby 2,169 Posted March 21, 2018 You didn't give to Rholio? No. But I didn't even know what was going on until after the fact. I actually never saw much of him, I think when I first started posting here he didn't post as much as he did with some of the other longtime members. RIP. Yeah, we don't have to follow federal law but how dare you defy our state laws. Typical focking California. These are the same people that decided that the state environmental regulations were too restrictive for their bullet train boondoggle so they opted to go with the less stringent federal environmental regulations so they could continue with the project. Of course, private companies aren't allowed to do that though.
mobb_deep 919 Posted March 21, 2018 When people think of politics in California, they think of San Fran/Los Angeles. But, the truth of the matter is a large percentage of California is conservative. Orange County has some of the most conservative cities in the nation (I live in one of them). You'll also find larger conservative populations in the agricultural areas (Bakersfield, Fresno, etc. etc.).

Unfortunately, they're leaving in droves. I think I read somewhere that 100,000 people left the state last year. I'm sure most of them were conservatives. There is a lot of conservatives here, and are tired of getting pushed around. In the primary cycle, I'm forced to vote with the democratic party, as the republicans won't let us caucus with them. As such, the republicans candidates in the general are usually the bible thumper/pro-life far-right types that independents don't like. We tend so support more moderate conservatives (ie. Kasich in the last cycle).
