Bar Rescue - Kicked out bikers. Can they do that?

Recommended Posts

So, I watched an episode of Bar Rescue.

Basically....the story is...

1. bar was thriving with great clientele

2. bikers started showing up

3. regular clientele were offended by then bikers - looks, smell, attitude, who knows, and quit coming to the bar.

4. during re-launch of new bar, they decided "no more bikers" and kicked them out when they showed up.

So...

I'm all for it.  I don't like turdbags.  The bikers looked like typical turdbag bikers-- Leather vests, bandanas, goatees, ya know...the tough guy biker look.

I"m glad they were booted out.

But... Is that something bars can do nowadays?  I mean, could the bikers cry foul? Discrimination?   If courts would happen to decide and say that the bar couldn't kick someone out based on looks, basically the courts would be saying "you need to let your business die"

So any issues? Can any store kick any group out for their look? (basically that's what happened)

Happens to bars with gay people taking over. mdc likes it but the owners have a dream of what they want their place to be. Tough call and interesting topic.

Plot twist... it’s a black biker gang

Gotta let them in then. Maybe even take away seats from more qualified white customers.

Might be able to get away with it under the bar/restaurant has a dress code policy.

That's what Twin Peaks does. they have a sign on the door saying no biker colors or cut off sleeves.

Good luck with that after all the cameras are gone.  Those shows are bullshit anyway.  Prolly actors.

That was my next scenario, after I got some replies.

Okay...so...

A store/coffee shop/etc that caters to elderly crowd (that buys a lot of stuff/service)  begins losing their clientele when a group of kids in sideways hats, skateboards and pants down to their ankles starts hanging out and never buying anything.

Can they kick out kids out even if they aren't swearing, drinking, smoking, hassling?  Or does the business just gotta shut down?    Ya know the kids are gonna say "We diddn't be doon nuttin' and dey just kick us out"

If the answer is they can't do anything, then uhhh...that's a great way for one competitor to get the other to close down.  Just pay some undesirables to hang out at the competitors place of business.

As long as you're kicking them out because of being bikers and not because they are black it should be fine.  We all know it won't be taken that way though.  As an owner you'd be screwed.

Legally, yes, an establishment can refuse service to anyone.

But, if it's based on a protected class like race or gender, they can't.

Gheys were trying to get that same protected class status in the baker case. They failed.

I think it’s funny there is a stigma against bikers, but they aren’t the ones out there committing 51% of the crimes despite being 13% of the population. Yet we view bikers as evil criminals. Just a thought.

Let me tell ya about Walmart in Fargo ND.  Nothing to do with closing, but with a complete change in clientele.

Used to be clean workers, clean clientele, etc.  Pretty much on par with Target just down the street.

Somalians moved to the area maybe 10 years or so ago.  Walmart was "more familiar" or whatever to them, so they started shopping Walmart.

The more of them that were in Walmart, the less "white folk in nice clothes" there were shopping at Walmart.

Then Walmart hired a few Somalians to work there.

As time went on "white" employees would quit, and be replaced by Somalian employees. (because likely white ones weren't applying).  The swap continued with both clientele and employees.

Now, most employees are Somali, almost all customers are Somali, minority, or just poor looking white folk. Generally in wife beater tanks with tats and only a few teeth.

I think they begin to feel "comfortable" with each other, and like they are "in the same boat" so all those groups shop there. I guess its the birds of a feather thing.

4 blocks east, Target has nice looking folks and the vehicles in the parking lot are nice, etc.  Crazy how things evolve.   Everyone in the "area" that talks about Walmart, talk how they avoid it and will never set foot in there, and how "dirty" it feels.

Some here, are thinking that story is "racist" and "mean" and "we all just need to get along" .
I think the logical ones will see it as an observation that makes sense.

They aren't the ones.  Agreed.  BUT...for whatever reason, they offended the bars paying clientele.  And that's all that mattered was the "perception".

That perception/stigma came from somewhere. I don't have the answer, but I know it wasn't because a group of people sat up late at night and had a round table discussion, and agreed to "try give bikers a negative stereotype" .

Movies?  A lot of movies portray them as "troublemakers".

Well, who cares if an OWNER wants something to be in line what they want?

What does this have to do with what I said?  Are you implying that I don't believe the owner has a right to refuse service?  I'm confused where you're going here.

If you follow up on the Waco shootings, it was a farce. The cops shot first, the DA wanted to make a name for himself. Even set up Gmail at the convention center ahead of time. The cops and the DA forced that situation big time. But after more than a year, they still didn't have any decent convictions. And that's an understatement. They held a lot of people for a very long time for no good cause. And I believe finally the feds had to get involved. That particular DA is no longer working anymore.

Arabs own a lot of Houston bars.

Got in big trouble for discriminating against the Canadians.

Some bikers are the worst of the worst.  Ive worked a few arson and bomb cases with Pagans and Hells Angels.  Makes you look over your shoulder for a while.  Dudes that go undercover in that sh!t have huge balls.

I’d bet big that bikers commit more crimes than black people on a per capita basis.

The owner should have the right to refuse service. 100% - Mind you, I'm not against bikers, it's just that if I open a bar where I want it to be a family or video game or whatever place... and some bikers want to turn it into a biker hang out, I should not have to accommodate.
