The medical/science journals are all very serious and my posts tend to reflect that, I wish I had better news to share.

Below is one bit of good news I have read recently, it is extremely difficult for the extremely young to catch the virus as confirmed by two independent studies in different countries.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2488-1_reference.pdf

We found that none of the children under 10 years of age who took part in the study tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection at either survey, despite at least 13 of them living together with infected family members (Extended Data Table 3).

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2006100

Children under 10 years of age were less likely to receive a positive result than were persons 10 years of age or older, with percentages of 6.7% and 13.7%, respectively, for targeted testing; in the population screening, no child under 10 years of age had a positive result, as compared with 0.8% of those 10 years of age or older.

The data that we have so far, which has it's limitations, shows that people under 35 generally don't get it (or present it) and even then shrug this thing off without difficulty.   2% of total cases.  <1% of deaths.   And the press has taken to blaming them.

You really aren't responding to the meat of my post.  And again, no critical analysis (not that there is much to be had for this data).  Just random data.  So, you don't really want to discuss this.  You just want to post random data without context or analysis.

Yup, and the likelihood is that the ~1% of deaths in most cases had to do with other contributing factors, such as obesity or other chronic issues.  Healthy people under 40 are at almost zero risk of dyng from this thing.

I think you could safely say the death risk is zero for healthy 40 year olds.  Its probably close to zero for healthy 70 year olds.  Obviously there are fewer of them.

If young kids aren’t catching it we should put them to work. Like China does for Nike and Apple.

I've posted this link before.  It's Colorado's Covid data:

https://covid19.colorado.gov/data/case-data

One table lists the death rate by age group.  Just a tick under 90% are people over 60 years old.  And under 40 is right around that 1% we discussed.  So yeah, the rate climbs as you age but until you're over 60 the odds are very strongly in your favor.

Remember our generation when parents wanted their kids to get chicken pox to get immunity, now parents are freaked out by a disease that has no effect on kids.

I am sorry for not explicitly stating it, although I did state this in response to Jerry/drobs on the previous page.

I agree with you. I think that we should continue to open the economy and that Texas is closing too much down. I do think a higher percent of people will catch it, but like you have pointed out these people will be in the lower risk group.

Specifically, I would like to see the beaches, rivers, and state parks opened back up. Although I think masks should be mandatory.

My opinions on the matter are independent of the facts I have posted. There is social and financial damages that also need to be considered from having an extremely restrictive lockdown.

You were the one being a d*ck. I was just noting that it was funny that you did the same thing you complained about. You don't think that is funny?

I did it once.  He does it EVERY time he posts in this thread.  There's nothing wrong with posting info.  But his posts are consistently just some info, typically on how bad Covid is, and nothing else.  I'm sorry you can't see the distinction in our posting habits in this thread.  And I wasn't a d*ck to him.  I responded with a well thought out post about his posting style in response to this comment from him:

I am not politicizing my posts, it is other people that are seeing a political agenda in them.

Explain how the post I posted in response to that was "being a d*ck."

Critiquing someone's posting style on a lightly trafficked message bored is pretty much being a d*ck. Do you think that I am being a d*ck now? Because that is what I am doing to you. See., it is funny. Lighten up a little.

That was on 2 random pages that I just clicked on, pages 147 and 148. I may have gotten lucky, who knows.  I post my opinions in this thread as well. I did it a few times in the last 2 pages. Truth be told I have not posted much in this thread in the last 2 months since it turned political. I was quite active in January, February, and March, but then generally avoided this thread.

This is a fine posting behavior, other people may find those articles interesting. Not every post needs to be an opinion, I just was pointing this out as I am not the only one that posts without providing an opinion.

Truth be told I would rather discuss in facts from medical journals than in opinions from main stream media. I have a very low opinion of journalists in general as I feel like the smarter people in college go on to be accountants, finance, engineering, med, etc and the dumber people go on to be journalists, psychologists, business degrees, etc.

This is why i try to stick to posting facts and not articles from media and why my posting habits in this thread are the way they are. If you want clarification on any of my opinions please let me know. I can and do provide my opinions separate from the facts when asked.

If your policy is to not ask people if they've been to protests, remarkably you find no correlation to protests.  Presto$#@!

Protests against systemic racism held in 300-plus U.S. cities following the death of George Floyd did not cause a significant increase in coronavirus infections, according to a team of economists who have published their findings in a 60-page paper released by the National Bureau of Economic Research; these somewhat surprising results are supported by Covid-19 testing data in many populous cities where demonstrations were held.

So it turns out both the Chinese and the WHO were lieing to us all along.  The Chinese NEVER even reported the virus to the WHO.  The WHO figured it out from reports from Taiwan and other public reports.  This new information ONLY became known because of a Republican led congressional investigation, and after the report from the investigation was leaked the WHO updated their timeline accordingly.  Will anyone from the WHO or China be held responsible for the millions of people who could have been saved with more timely notifications?  Doubtful.

While we seem to be trending in the wrong direction for some indicators (like total positives, which is useless), none of the above is true.  ICUs often operate at 90%+ capacity, and we haven't activated our surge capacity yet (6K beds).  Hadn't heard anything about ventilator shortage.

Lol. One of the funnniest posts in the history of this place.  Nice work Digby34
