Actually that stat literally shows that they work.  I believe about ~80% of adults are vaccinated.  So they are getting infected at a much lower rate - if my math is right that equates to a 75% reduction in infections - slightly lower than advertised, but the 95% refers to “symptomatic” infections, and we also know the vaccines can be less effective at preventing infection from some of the variants.  And that’s “of adults,”  many of the current cases are children under 12.   And most of the hospitalized are unvaccinated - https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/Israel-COVID-uptick-shows-vaccines-help-but-are-no-panacea

Keep in mind...Israel’s current “outbreak” is about 200 new cases a day.   Compared to their peak of almost 10k.  The US, at our lowest point since March 2020 and the pandemic considered “over” by many (including myself really). is still seeing about 12k new cases a day - Israel’s population is about 9 million, so the US still has more new cases per million population.

I cannot get over how inept and stupid the campaign to get everyone vaxxed is.  Every covid ad I hear implores people to get vaxxed and they use arguments like "its safe", "it will help everyone", "it works".  Its like the people creating these ads have never dealt with a human before.  My gut instinct, when trying to sell someone a product that must get out there, is to TALK ABOUT PRICE.  TELL THEM IT IS FREE TO GET VAXXED.  I know way too many people that make horrifically bad decisions just to save 2 pennies.  If you do not tell them it is free, they will ignore your ads and not get vaxxed EVER.

There's no way we will EVER reach "herd immunity" nationwide with these crap ads.  It almost makes me think they DON'T want people to get vaxxed.

I love this line: But the risk of dying from COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated depends on people's age, Spiegelhalter and Masters said. The older a person is, the more likely they are to die from infection if it breaks through the protection given by the vaccines.

The same goes with unvaccinated but that doesn't fit the plan of trying to bet everyone injected with the juice.

And the conclusion you would draw is that the jab is not only less effective for those over 50 when it comes to the Delta, it appears to have anywhere from zero effectiveness to actually contributing to the virulance. It's a good thing these variants are rather benign.

71 fully vaccinated deaths / 850 people =  8.35%

25.3% - 8.35% = 16.95%

16.95% / 25.3% = 67% effective

 

If 90% of 50+ are fully vaccinated:

38 unvaccinated deaths / 100 people = 38%

71 fully vaccinated deaths / 900 people = 7.9%
