It looks fine.  It's not great but it's not terrible.  Lots of people will still call them the Indians and most everyone else won't care.

I know a Native who became a Redskins fan way back as a kid because he thought it was cool.  In fact he would have on his old school redskins hat with the badass Native American warrior logo much of the times I ran into him.

But then again he isnt from this weak generation who cry about everything.

thats all of them

I grew up in a town that had 3 reservations, they all argued over which team got to be the redskins in pop warner, the one that won was the Redskins, the second was the Aztecs, and the 3rd picked the Indians

this was for football

I played for the Barona Indians adult league, sponsored by the casino, our team name was the INDIANS

every casino in the US on a reservation still refer to themselves as Indians

the Indian logo was designed by an Indian

Absolutely. Nothing should have Indian tribe names. Not even Indian owned casinos.

Every team in Philadelphia should be called the Front Runners. And Phillies is a really stupid name.

The Bills should be next on the list.  Named after a man that served in the military that actually killed said Indian's and was a huge contributor in almost wiping out an entire species of animals.  Good job Buffalo.  The Other Mistake by the Lake

Shut your filthy wh0re mouth!!! :nono:

TBH I am actually surprised nobody have gotten their panties in a bunch over  them being named after Buffalo Bill Cody yet.  Hopefully he didn't own any slaves. 🤞

Stupid.  It's funny, all of this is under the guise of not offending anyone, but what it's doing is essentially cancelling/removing them from society.

This is actually wrong.

Obama renamed Mount McKinley to its Indian name - Denali.

They are taking things with English names and giving them Indian names.  They are taking things with Indian names and giving them English names.

The goal is "Whatever the capitalist pigs of America did, it was WRONG and we must change it".  The goal is to shame the USA in BOTH directions.  Eventually the US flag will be racist.  Eventually the Constitution will be racist.  Then they will try to install a communist dictatorship.  Its not about what Native Americans want.  Its about white liberals who lust for power.

I sort of mostly understood the Redskins as it could have been taken negatively.

But Indians?  or Braves?  or Seminoles?   I don't get.

What am I missing?  :dunno:

I love posts like this implying as if this isn't worthy to make comments on.  This is a fantasy football bored, where we talk about most anything including if you stand or sit to poop.  However MDC is above saying if the new team name for a MLB team is good, bad, stupid, funny, etc.

It just doesn't roll of the tongue.  Cleveland Guardians.

Sounds like a World League of American Football League team.  I'll never forget the game I went to as a kid where the Raleigh Skyhawks played the Frankfurt Galaxy.

Reading a little history about the name. Apparently at the time the team was called the Cleveland Spiders. That was until they signed the first native American player in the league Louis Sockalexis. Louis was a superstar and people started calling them the indians in his honer. The name stuck and soon Sockalexis Tribe was renamed the Indians.

Thank God liberals erased this man.

I wasn’t implying that the team name change wasn’t worthy of discussion. I was implying that a team you don’t even root for changing their name isn’t worth getting butt hurt over. It’s a baseball team name.

I think “Guardians” is fine. Some fans wanted Commodores, I like that a little better.

In the early 1990s, when Eastern Michigan changed it's name from the Hurons to the Eagles, the Huron community's opinion was unwelcome because they supported keeping the name 'Hurons." The team mascot was quite dignified looking. No matter, the kindly, wise PC liberal faculty at Eastern were a lot more knowledgeable on the subject than the irritating toofless stupid red savages who needed to STFU because they didn't know what was good for them. The faculty took the initiative to get offended on their behalf, and pushed the name change through anyway. Bye bye Eastern Michigam Hurons, Hello Eastern Michgan Eagles.

Upon hearing the news, the Chippewa tribe saw the writing on the wall and went on the offensive, lobbying Central Michigan hard to make sure the team kept their name as the Chippewas.

Nope Chippewas has to go. White liberals know what's best for POC.

The best name by a mile was Spiders.  I notice some really hate that name though.

Next best is Buzzards.  There is a legendary FM rock and roll radio station in Cleveland.  It is 100.7 WMMS.  Its nickname is "the buzzard".  Its perfect for the baseball team as it ties into the city's history, its love of rock, and FM radio.

Hilarious that they think erasing representation is a good thing that the minorities in question want. Let’s just erase any sight of any black person off all grocery products because just acknowledging that black people exist is racist. Let’s erase all the American Indian tradition and heritage from everything, that’s surely what they want. Can we go back to when racism implied something derogatory? Celebrating a cultures heritage is not racism.

This for sure. If it’s an old timey slur or otherwise derogatory connotation it makes sense. No Indians have a problem with braves or chiefs, it’s just white Karens who think making a stink about it will make them appear more woke to their social media followers.

If anyone researched the name and history of the Redskins they would know that there was nothing racist or negative about the name, mascot or origination.
White liberals and laziness created the slippery slope we are sliding down. Change every last mother focking one of them. You can find offense in anything if you try hard enough.

The finalists for the new name were Guardians, Spiders, Buckeyes, and the Walleye.  The Walleye would come with a secondary name...."the school".

https://sports.yahoo.com/david-briggs-did-indians-really-183400587.html

Jul. 27—First off, speaking of guardians, give it up for the real winners of the Cleveland Indians' name change.

And that's the Toledo Walleye, who defended what is theirs in remaining the only professional team in Ohio christened after our favorite fish.

Per a report by The Athletic, the Indians "strongly considered" a handful of appellations, including the Spiders, Buckeyes, and, yes, the Walleye, a sneaky popular choice among Cleveland fans. They went with the Guardians, rumoredly out of fear of a maritime battle with Toledo. (And possible trademark issues. We're waiting on word from Mud Hens and Walleye executives as to whether the Indians reached out.)

In any case, the Tribe was not going to become the School.

As the Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz cheekily declared last summer: "Toledo doesn't have a navy, but if it did, I would order it into battle against the name-snatchers to the East and wage the Second Battle of Lake Erie. And to paraphrase the hero of the original battle, Oliver Hazard Perry, 'We will not give up the Walleye!'"

Hooyah!

As for the switch to the Guardians, listen, I'm done biting my lip. I'm so $#%&@%& ... indifferent.

In fact, I have to say, the new name is sorta — [ducks for cover] — growing on me.

Is it what I would have picked? Probably not. I preferred the Spiders or a Lake Erie theme. Say, the Commodores, or Shoremen, or — in honor of the Indians' 17 losses in their last 25 games — the Shipwrecks.

Dear God, do they suck at this. Looks like the people responsible for changing the name are even more bumbling than I realized.

I guess walleyes isn’t half bad. Walleyes are a Great Lakes fish for those who don’t know.

Are there any nice cities in Ohio? They all seem to be shitholes. NY at one time had some nice ones, like Rochester, but the liberals took them down.

Yep. Listened to them back in the late 70's early 80s.

It's the tribe. Chief Wahoo and the Indians forever.

Son: Daddy, why did they change the name to The Guardians?
Father: Well son, some people found Indians offensive.

Son: Why?
Father: I don’t know. And neither do they.
