I have nothing but admiration for someone who is willing to put their life on the line for something greater.

Even more so if one gives up “the dream” to do it.

I'd venture to guess in a war like Iraq or Afghanistan,  friendly fire and things like helicopter crashes make up a very significant portion of casualties.

Does that make it true? No. Does it make it false? No. 

We know he died from "friendly fire." Up until recently I assumed the story we were given was true. Now I'm not so sure. You are free to believe whateverthefuck you want to believe. It makes no difference to me.

Right. A guy who gave up an extremely lucrative career in the NFL, a profession basically exclusive to alpha males, couldn't possibly have been too gung ho for some guys who just wanted to make it home alive.

It absolutely could've been pilot error that cost him his life. It could also very well have been his own guys who did him in.  

Either way it's a tragedy.

I subscribe to the old adage 'believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see' but the guy sounded convincing to me. That doesn't mean it went down the way alluded to but it very well could've. Remote mountain top and all. I mean, if you weren't there, you don't know for a fact either way. For anyone who's actually interested, they were Congressional hearings on this s***. Unresolved is whether he died by intent or accident. What is unquestionable is that the attempted cover up was deliberate and intentional.

 

After everything that I've read and reviewed, my own take is there are a lot of stupid guys the army, who screwed up big-time under stress and fire and fear.  Then their barely smarter superiors made it worse by trying to cover it up because they knew they killed a national hero and heads would roll. 

 

What pisses me off among many things is there are hundreds of guys like Pat. Except they weren't NFL stars. And they died tragically and needlessly because stupid young men were sent to a horrible place by stupid old men. Most of the former we'll never know about. And most of the latter ? Will never be held accountable.
