I had a class that visited a prison in middle school. And afterwards- people bitched and moaned for days about it normalizing the prison industrial complex system in this country and how the school was normalizing all of this.

Oh no wait- that didn't happen because people weren't babies with piss filled pants screaming at clouds from their keyboards.

What exactly do you think those kids were being taught?

i was referencing the "cultural war stories" he mentioned as a whole not being important. i just meant i think it's important what our kids are being taught in general, no?

as for this story, i think it's moronic for elementary school kids going on a field trip to an applebees let alone a gay bar. like wiffleball said, where are the permission slips? even if it's harmless.wtf???  it's just idiotic.

My kids had a class trip to the pizza place down the street, where they learned how to make pizza, learned about money, etc.  They all enjoyed it.  We don't know if anyone there was gay, nor would it matter at all.

But if you hate gays, you will find reasons to be outraged about gays.

Dear lord people- trips require permission slips. They were most likely sent out to parents who signed and returned them.

The trip on its surface may be weird but none of us know the rationale for it and no "I Googled her online she is a rainbow warrior" does not underlie intent. Someone saw her post about it and lost their minds which got other dopes riled up about it

It is also weird the way people are completely overreacting to all of this or in the case of some people here thinking that it all opens them up to using as many slurs as possible into their comments.

Guys wearing 'skinny jeans'.

That's a reason, right?

I did Google her name. Nothing screams that she is gay or a "rainbow warrior" of any kind. Unless you are mad because she is tolerant....if that is the case than- well that says more about you than anything else.

On her personal twitter (not on her separate school board one), looks like she has retweeted something called "Dolphin Democrats" several times which is apparently about LGBTQ politicians, but that's about all I see.

It seems like an odd place to take students to but I'm sure there's more to the story than we know.  We will never hear that from the media though.  The media creamed in their jeans when they saw this story and loved being able to say a school took kids to a gay bar.  Conservatives are jumping to conclusions instantly that this school is grooming kids to be gay now.  The right and left love to lap up stories like this so they can have even more reason to hate the other side.

also why does someone then have to go post pics of all the kids lined up out front on twitter??? i wouldn't even post my kids friends pics on twitter...it's just weird to me. i guess all these schools do this now. but wasn't there a time when it was pretty forbidden to post pics of other peoples kids without permission?

The teachers at my daughter's school have facebook pages for their classes and post pictures all the time.  Parents love to see what their kids are doing in class.  We get to see what projects they work on and what they do on field trips.  Seems pretty common to me.

I'm actually a barrel of laughs.  Field trips are great and fulfill many learning objectives.  But I also want accountability from my schools that the fulfill their primary goal, which is to teach kids.  I'd be asking the same question if they took a trip to a straight bar. Also, I've been told DeathSantis kills people in Florida.  Sounds like a trip to a public place with unmasked people is irresponsible during Covid.

Apparently discussing a topic on a MESSAGE BOARD where people talk about stuff means you are upset.

There are certainly some disgruntled posters here over this subject.  Apparently some other people were so upset they sent the woman threats on social media.  We've either got some legit outrage or some fake outrage going on here.

Our school district uses a private website that requires a login.  No pictures posted to social media sites.

We had people calling for the murder of a 15 year old kid who wore a skirt and raped a girl earlier this week.

I think our school does private facebook groups.  Still on social media though.

The school district issued a statement Thursday night saying the students did not see the restaurant’s regular menu, but instead were given “a student-friendly paper menu that has three child-friendly choices.”

One of the owners of Rosie’s Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors said he’s confused what all the fuss is about — especially since children from the school have been coming to the restaurant for field trips for about 10 years. “It’s a great experience for the kids to come in and learn how restaurants operate,” John Zieba said. He said the educational value is in the children not only learning math skills from the prices on the menu, but also to see what kitchen managers, chefs and servers do for a living.

Hmm… I wonder how much math they learned from a menu with 3 child-friendly choices?  I mean, I’ve learned from @Sean Mooneyin this thread that one can never draw conclusions, but if I were a conclusion-drawer, I might think that the paper menu is a crock of shiot, but the owner didn’t get the memo about the paper menu story.  I’m open to being wrong though; they have been doing this for 10 years so I’m sure somebody still has a copy of this special menu.  Also the teacher surely has a lesson plan to go over the various prices on the menu and teach the children math skills.  If not, I’ll just have to live with myself drawing conclusions.  :dunno:

With the guest speaker being the owner. Teaching the kids how to fry chicken as that's all their future holds in store for them given their current education.

At least they would be joining a good company.

Kids group into separate tables.  Calculate the order total for you table.  Calculate tips of 15 and 20 percent. Calculate how much each person should pay if we divide the bill equally.

Name calling, seems below an upstanding centrist like yourself.  :(

But you are correct, I am jumping to conclusions based on their “dog ate my homework” level story about the menu.  I should know better than to question when I’m told something is misinformation.  :thumbsup:

Plus, on the operations side:  the cost of the plate.

a= case of burger meat/ portion size

b= case of buns/ ct per case

c= Case of fries/ portion size

d= pickle

e= tomato slices

etc

I'm lost trying to figure out what you are asserting here. There is no alternate menu? IF that was the case, don't you think somebody would have made a case about this years ago, rather than after a decade of taking kids to this restaurant?

Yeah, it's imperative these days to teach math at gay bars.
