However the drills are more for the staff and administraion. At my kids school once a year they have the drill. They "lockdown" the school, all the students either stay or go to their classroom and the teachers shut their door which has a locking mechanism called a RHINO lock. Pretty much a metal rod attached to bottom of door that is locked into the ground. There are other protocols. It's not a huge production or anything, but they do it once a year. There is also one school protective agent on duty. More or less a security guard but I feel better than him or nothing. Either way, locked doors, cameras, somebody on watch are the easy fixes. We send billions of dollars abroud, it can be done. Invest in America. And we can raise the age of gun purchase to 21 or some other 'smaller' gun control measures. We'll never stop it all, but we can contain and mitigate best we can all while keeping our rights as free people.

But just like with terrorism, a series of small steps can mitigate risk and impact.

We do them 2-3 times a year. They call them ALICE drills. The acronym is "Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate." It isn't a list of things you do in order but more an idea of you do whatever is best for your classroom given the proximity to the shooter. Additionally, the outside doors are checked during this drill by the facilities team and our SRO. As a teacher if you lockdown- you lock the door (mine is always locked with a magnet in the door frame- so if a shooter was coming I just remove the magnet), barricade the door up, and the local fire department cut up old fire hoses so each room has a foot long section of hose to put over the door top hinge which makes the door all but impossible to open. The thinking being- in all the training we are taught that most school shootings last less than 7 minutes as the shooter is trying to do the maximum amount of damage in the smallest amount of time. And if they are hung up on trying to get into rooms you are protecting your class and hopefully delaying him enough for cops to arrive and get into the building. That latter part is what makes the hour long time frame from Texas so frustrating. 11 minutes ago, Cloaca du jour said: Im pretty sure HT our education expert will tell us what needs done I'm sure it is just some Mad Libs of "Biden, Mexico, baby formula, rocks." 6 minutes ago, Hardcore troubadour said: This is an education issue? Also, teachers need to start dressing appropriately. I see teachers wearing shorts. WTF? Project a better image so when the time comes you’ll be taken seriously. Dons don’t wear shorts. I’ve seen it too. You are not wrong. I don’t know what all happened in Texas as the stories change but people prop open locked doors all the time. Maybe this makes those that do to stop. One small step going forward.

If I went to parent teacher conference and I saw shorts, , nose rings, sleeve tattoos etc. I’d be pissed.

Mass shootings also more than doubled after the AWB expired. My point, if I have one, is what people call "assault weapons". It's a media made up term that many gravitate towards because their definition of it sounds sinister, if you will. An AR-15 doesn't stand for "Assault Rifle-15" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15_style_rifle I'm sure you're aware of that..I know you're not a dummy like...well...not to name names, but mebbe a few in our crowd here. It has become a generic term for all that is evil in our society as far as guns our concerned. Please just don't use the term "Assault Rifle" anymore when referencing semi auto rifles. Or do...Doesn't matter that much to myself (even though it does) Also...My AC just went out in my house and I'm gonna have to pay around 20k to get it replaced this coming tuesday

You definitely still see some teachers (mostly older ones) wearing dress shirts and ties all week long. I pretty much stay with polo shirts and khakis all week. But I also absolutely see some female teachers who get away with the yoga pants with a blouse over top which is a bit under dressed to me but whatever. 44 minutes ago, TimHauck said: The door being propped open was not how Ramos got in He loves that hill man.
