Right. It was a symbol of white nationalism before trump, but became a symbol of white nationalism within trump. Even though it existed prior to and outside of trump. When you joined MENSA, did you take your big brain with you, or did you get a big brain there?

I agree that the confederate flag was mostly a southern pride thing 30-40 years ago, or even into the 90s. But at some point, some African Americans decided that it was offensive to them, due to what it stood for. Like it or not, the meaning has morphed into a symbol of racism and white Christian nationalism. If you're still flying one publicly, you're probably a POS. If you're flying it north of Mason-Dixon, you're definitely a POS.

I suggest that it was likely always offensive to AA's. But only recently has society given their views a microphone.  Once enough white Americans agreed it facilitated change.

When I was a kid, call it the 70s and 80s, the Confederate flag was used to mean "Southern Pride". There was no racism associated with how it was portrayed in pop culture, meaning specifically in the band Lynyrd Skynyrd nor the Dukes of Hazzard TV show. I was in the north where we have zero affinity for it, where our forefathers fought to take it down, and where local schools are named "Lincoln" and "Grant" but I never begrudged the south their flag.

Since then, in fairness, I've been overseas now for 21 years and so don't have the pulse of the country anymore on such things. I don't know if it still retains that meaning of Southern Pride of if it really has morphed into the darker racist symbol it's detractors make it out to be.

The South needed the asskicking they took in the 1860s to end slavery and I'm glad they lost. But I am curious as to what goes through the minds of the people who still do fly that flag in 2022. I'm hoping most of them still look at it the way Bo and Luke and Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington did and not the way you presume they do.

What once was a symbol of southern pride has become a symbol of hate and racism, thanks in no small part to those who have made it that by their actions. It was a battle flag that has come to mean something completely different.

For those who aren't paying attention and therefore don't know the left changes the meanings of things simply to fit their own hate filled messages and agendas, they should try to catch up with reality.

If you’re flying any of those kinds of flags at this point — don’t tread on me, thin blue line, etc. — I’m sorry but you look like a white supremacist, and probably are one. Maybe it’s not fair but those things were all co-opted by folks like at Charlottesville and January 6, so by association you are with them, or at a bare minimum, you’re totally willing to let people assume you are.

To the surprise of no one, since it's an organization of and for highly intelligent individuals, HT shows us that he is ignorant about Mensa. Add it to an awe-inspiring list of concepts that are well beyond his feeble grasp.

Yup. It's unfortunate in the case of most of those symbols, as they stood for important ideals before being co-opted by hateful morons.

I have blue lights in front of my house to show support for the police. It doesn’t have anything to do with white supremacy. Especially since half the people I worked with weren’t white. What a dumb thing to say.

I would bet that it was white Leftists who decided that blacks should be offended by the flag.  I'm open to being wrong tho.

Not just some African-Americans. Pretty much all of them. Up until the 1970s in my community, high school football players ran out onto the field under a Confederate flag, but that changed after the black players refused to run under it, so they got rid of the flag.

The only people I see with a Confederate flag in their yard or on their car as a bumper sticker around here are definitely POS racist redneck trash. And most of the time those flags flutter alongside MAGA flags.

Kari Lake has pulled within 18K votes with an estimated 36K to go.  Not enough room for her to win, but the margin currently rounds to 0.6%, and by law in AZ there is an automatic recount if the decision is within 0.5%.

It's a fair point.

I think there likely were AA's who were offended though, perhaps in smaller numbers than I am appreciating.  Most AA's have real problems and do not have the luxury to be bothered with social experimentation. So there is that.

I will allow that most of this silliness is driven by white liberals with not enough to do.

That's ridiculous.

I would bet that it was because it has been a Confederacy symbol for more than 150 years, exacerbated by it's use by the KKK, neo-nazies, skinheads, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, MAGAtards and other extremist hate groups.

Blacks have always been offended by the flag. As they should, because it symbolizes hate.

so its fair to call all democrats pedos too by that logic.  you wish to smear a whole group of people it goes both ways. if you vote democrat, if you have a biden sticker, if you have a blm shirt, you are a pedo.  you are willing to let people assume you are after all. those are your words.

its not so much fun when your words and smear tactics are used against you, is it?

Who said anything about blue lights? It’s that thin blue line flag specifically. And don’t blame me - blame the white supremacists that carried it everywhere around Charlottesville, January 6 etc (ironically while assaulting Capitol police officers).

I support cops too, don’t buy into defund the police and all that garbage, fyi

I also have a sticker on my car that says Back The Blue.  It’s backdrop is that evil thin blue line flag you’re all worked up about. I hope I don’t get pulled over by a black cop and he sees that. I’m in for it then.

I’ll ask again but I’m sure you’ll just respond with an unrelated link: How do you feel about FTX’s co-CEO donating $20 million to Republicans?

Of course FTX was a scam.  But that doesn’t mean he was working with Biden and Zelensky to launder money.  He gave money to politicians because he thought it would help his business.

Fox News doing their part to stoke this conspiracy theory.  Fair and balanced, lol.

Do you have Tourette's or something?    "But - the $20M!"   "But - the $20M!"   Lather, rinse, repeat.

You are purposely being obtuse.   You saw the #s, you saw who was/is directly connected to FTX.    Asking ""But - the $20M!" is the equivalent of someone who's been shot 3 times and stubbed their toe and you're standing there going "but what about the stubbed toe???!!"    Who the fuk cares about the stubbed toe - he's got a sucking chest wound.

The last time I was in Michigan the thin blue line flag was very common. It was a symbol of showing solidarity with the police at a time when left wing politicians won't and when BLM rioters rampages through communities looting and burning. I saw it displayed prominently at the local fair, I found it reassuring, and no way would I be shamed to take it down. It's also new, I didn't know what it was and what it symbolized, and had to ask.

To me it means BLM can go fock themselves and I have zero sympathy for them and their cause. If that's racist, sign me up.

Yes. Let's play the guilt by association game three steps removed.

I'm well aware of the white left's tactic is to paint everyone who disagrees with them as racist so they can inflict BLM, Affirmative Action, and equity on them, excuse rioting as justified, keep criminals out of prison and claim without evidence that the nation is inherently racist .

The true north on the issue of racial justice remains colorblindness which the left has abandoned/condemned in favor of "anti-racism." Knowing you subscribe to those many/most/all of these left wing ideologies, I have to take any insinuations of racism with a grain of salt.

I think it’s pretty significant when the entire original claim was “SBF donated $40 million to Dems! Conspiracy!!!”

And yet FTX’s co-CEO donating $20 million to Republicans is NBD.  Just admit it doesn’t fit your narrative and stfu already.

So this whole FTX thing is a web of the connected / family members and the Democratic Party. Even the SEC chair is caught up in it.  Nothing to see here folks.

My ties to Charlottesville

support for thin blue line flag ---->

thinking reasonable people can disagree on keeping up /taking down Robert E. Lee statues --->

(this is where I get off the train)

-----------------------

support for keeping the statue up ---->

willing to attend a protest in order to keep the statue up --->

still being willing to attend a protest to keep the statue up upon learning that neo-Confederates, neo-Nazis, and skinheads will also attend --->

actually being a neo-Confederate, neo-Nazi, or skinhead ----->

making excuses for running a car over counter-protestors ----->

being James Alex Fields

I think we are not recognizing the victory the American people won on this one.  This setup should result in next to nothing being passed.  That is the best possible outcome for the people of this nation.

nope, not hate.  not even close.  just quit forcing your views on hard working Americans that disagree with your platform.  just because you think you are right doesn't make you right.  just because it is a Democrat idea does not make it a good idea.  toeing the company line is easy.  you get the same talking points to regurgitate, and then pat yourself on the back.   I'm smart, your dumb.  cool huh?

not specifically snark directed at you, just replying to a lot of stuff I've seen posted her by the resident Libs.
