Yup. We all acknowledged we have a mental health crisis in this country. It’s time for the two sides to meet concerning it. The right has to give some ground on this. And the left has to not go too far as they usually do.

Finding that emotional disorder would require the patient to sign a HIPPA release form, giving those conducting a background access to the medical data base and ability to request records directly from the doctor. That's a can of worms right there, so where does the line get drawn?

But limits on how many weapons one can buy during a certain time period is something that warrants consideration.

If you can ask if someone is a drug addict when applying for a firearm, (Hunter Biden) and use that as a basis to deny, then the same should go for prescription psych drugs.

Absolutely.  It would be great to put politics aside but I don't know if that can be done.  It doesn't help that people want to get rid of the 2nd Amendment.

This is what makes it so hard.  How can we make changes without violating people's rights?

Why not just limit the number and types of guns people can buy?  Start with the AR-15, the number one weapon of choice for mass shootings.

I concede that ARs do look pretty scary.

It would be nice if Biden stopped acting like a Junior Senator looking for a sound bite. He claimed the other day that republicans want to cut funding to the atf. Lie. He also said the killer used an AK-47.

For general protection - a safeguard against prowlers, burglars, thieves looking for a quick and easy score. For that, locks serve a great purpose.

But this kid was no prowler. He was armed to the 9s with 2 ARs, hundreds of rounds and a tactical vest. No door lock was keeping him out. Nor would it protect you from him if he came loaded down like that to your house and your door lock.

It is being made to sound like the shooter would have just turned around and gone home if the back door was locked - that’s ludicrous. This kid was getting in that school one way or the other. Far as locked doors inside the school, good chance more kids are alive today if all doors were locked - but there’d still be bodies everywhere bcoz he was getting in a classroom one way or the other.

But as long as we’re playing the ‘more kids alive if the doors were locked’ game - how about more kids alive if an 18-year old doesn’t have legal access to assault rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammo, more kids alive if armed officers aren’t standing around outside arguing with parents while their kids are being slaughtered inside, how about more kids alive if this gov. doesn’t pull $230m from the state budget for mental health treatment…Lock doors need to be part of the discussion, but they’re down my list of things/people to blame for this.

On 6/1/2022 at 10:23 PM, Cruzer said:

Agreed.

But to make the door locked/unlocked the primary focal point is ridiculous - which is my point.

A horrible, horrible tragedy... But at least we're not talking about locked doors anymore.

Pages and pages of 'lock door' blaming in the Uvalde shooting - just ridiculous. Said it then and it rang true here - if a person is hell bent on getting thru a door to kill, they will find a way, locked or not.

The AR-15 is no different from any other rifle. Just the name and looks set snowflakes off for some reason. It's a fancy looking rifle, that's all it is. It's a political thing, OUTLAW THE AR-15, IT SCARES ME. Hood rats carry handguns, hence the violence in Democratic Cities. Let's start there

Here's a sample from youtube:

go ahead, look them up.

Why is it the preferred weapon of choice for mass shootings?

It's a semi-auto - like ALL rifles.

It's looks scary, though.  You better go back to the comfort of your stall at the gloryhole, coward.

Because they are cheap. A handgun would be a much better choice and do much more damage, it can be concealed, it's stealth, easier to reload, carry, etc.

Year to year, murders that involve a gun, what's the percentage that used a rifle? 3%

I use a .223 AR-15 to kill hogs, coyotes and any nice Buck that gets 150 yards in my sights 😁

It’s funny, when you bring up crime libtards like to tell you the odds are very small you’ll be a victim of a crime and it’s just Republican fear mongering. Kids get killed in cities more than they do in schools. I wish we paid as much attention to both. Yet it’s downplayed by liberals like Gutterboy, Pimptard and MDC when it’s brought up.

I have 15 firearms in my home.  They have never done violence.  As inanimate objects they cannot without my agency.  I have done violence, I did not need a firearm to do violence.  As a tool user with the capacity for planning I could do incredible levels of violence with no firearm.  Fire and smoke are far more effective in many buildings for the taking of life.  As we saw on 911 so too planes.  No firearms killed anyone in the towers those days. In public, on the streets, we have seen one can mow down a lot of Dancing Granies with a vehicle rather than firearms.  Nope, forearms are not the problenm.  Our desire to do violence is the problem.

.233 is awfully light for hogs, a bit light for whitetail perfect for coyotes, very effective for prarie dogs, if you are in to that sort of thing.

Because an AR-15 is just a look, it's not a specific gun.  I can rig up my .22 rifle to look all scary but it's still the same gun I use for shooting critters on my property.  You're going to have to be a lot more specific if you're limited what people can buy.

Yep - handguns are the overwhelming winner in all gun related deaths.

But rifles look scary and p@ssy's like @GutterBoy run and hide at the mere mention of their name!

Mass shootings, school shootings, the AR-15 is the gun of choice.  You would think it's something we would like to stop.

There has been a sharp uptick in shootings outside of NYC schools this year and last. Good thing they have strict security measures for entering school. It’s not a big deal though. It’s just right outside the schools.
