SUXBNME 1,458 Posted December 10, 2023 My god, but they consistantly put out the worst lists of all time. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-guitarists-1234814010/andy-summers-3-1234815076/ Some lowlights... #197 - Nuno Bettencourt (That low, huh...retards) #173 - Paul McCartney (He's a fukkin bassist for christs sakes) #127 - Steve Vai (Not even the top 20????????) #96 - Mark Knopfler (Dire Straights...Wayyyy too low a ranking) #94 - Joe Satriani (#94???? just wow) #88 - Kurt Cobain (dude is supposedly better than Nuno, Vai, Mark and Satch? ) I know that Rolling Stone has been a sh1t mag for years, but they never fail to show their ignorance every year with these "lists"

jonmx 2,424 Posted December 10, 2023 Any list that puts Mark Knopfler at #93 isn't worth a click. Same magazine which ranked Led Zepplin as the 66th greatest band.
Tree of Knowledge 1,720 Posted December 10, 2023 I’m sure Clapton’s non-PC political statements had nothing to do with his ranking.
DonS 3,292 Posted December 10, 2023 Eric Johnson at 205??? No John Petrucci or Adam Jones? Gotta make room for some random chicks from punk bands you never heard of so I guess that will skew the rankings.

Dizkneelande 1,086 Posted December 10, 2023 It’s rollingstone they have been garbage for 30 years. Notice all the woman who haven’t done anything for a quarter century like Joan Jett moved up considerably from the last time that out one of these trash lists out? Jann Wenner was on Rogan you would think Joe was interviewing an amalgamation of timscrotchet and rusty. Guy is a loon. Also, Nuno Bettencourt is currently the best guitarist in the world. I’m right, you’re wrong.
The Real timschochet 6,476 Posted December 10, 2023 I met Jann Wenner’s son who is currently COO on a plane a few months back and I told him to his face these lists were always absurd. He laughed and said they were voted on by hundreds of music critics and that sometimes the choices seemed absurd to him too, but that they were designed to generate interest and discussion. Which I guess we’re doing so It’s working. He was a nice guy. Eric Clapton not in the top ten seems like the biggest miss to me.

Outside of his work with Cream, he's history's most overrated guitar player. There is nothing remarkable about his playing. I had second-row seats to one of his shows in the early 1980s. It was the most boring concert I've ever seen. There he was playing just a few yards away, and it was focking boring.

There are about 1/2 dozen more if I give it some thought. He is probably Top 10 on my people's list and deservedly so, IMO.

The Real timschochet 6,476 Posted December 11, 2023 One thing I like about this list, better than the order: the song selections. For example they list “Whole Lotta Rosie” as their selection for great guitar by AC/DC. I love that tune but I never bothered to listen to the guitars in particular. Now I will.
