Do you really use the "Ignore User" function?

I remember years ago when people here talked about that function, they couldn't believe some people just couldn't "scroll past" or something like that. Like, some how you were a weak or bad person because you had to use that function. 

I have 5 Geeks on my ignore list; a couple are from years and years ago but obviously I haven't missed them. 

What say you about the ignore function? Poosays use it? Or it's been a godsend?

I don't have a take on it.  Use it if you want.  

I can scroll past or just not engage with posters I don't want to engage with.  So not much of an issue for me.  

I've never put anyone on ignore.

I think people need to start being adults here and ignore (button or no button) posters into submission.  

I feel some posters here have the self control of a child.  

"Oh so and so ruins ths bored, oh this guy is the worst, ect ect...)

Yet humor them by going back and forth with them.

I honestly find it bizarre.   These are seemingly normal posters.  But they can't help themselves and touch the hot burner anyway.

Until a couple years ago I never used it and had the attitude of just scrolling past certain people's posts.  But then Newbie went off the rails and eventually I had to just put him and subsequently any alias I identified as him on ignore.  The bored was unreadable without doing that.  Much like reading a thread that @The Real timschochet starts polluting.

the only person I ever put on ignore was wiffleball. he's still there and i don't even know why. I may have been testing it out and he came to mind 

otherwise I find it easy enough to scroll past... and seeing all the slap fights and derailing of threads is comical in it's own way. Like if i'm going to be here anyway, might as well get a good laugh out of those guys 

wouldn't blame anyone for using it though.

there are people here who claim to never use the report feature and they absolutely have. (not you, just pointing it out.)

As for the alias thing, I have 2.   One was to mock a specific person/event (medstudent) and the other was sort of mocking a person but I was also serving a suspension on this account because GF was a child. The post count between both is probably very low.

i get what you're saying but at the same time this is an internet message board... it just comes with the territory, I think.  why do people care about most of the random topics we post in? why do people care enough to have political slap fights? etc..

I think it depends of the point of the alias. To skirt a ban or for hilarity is fine. To hide from getting mocked, or to go around liking your own posts and bolstering your point-pathetic. In which case that person needs to step away from the computer and get help.

I have one alias I created about two years ago for a very specific reason/poster. I've used it 5 times and forgotten the email and password and I think the poster has been banned, or I haven't seen him in a long time. (I think I told you @OldMaid what it was). 

Other than that, it's not like I CARE people make tons of accounts, I just don't see the point of it when it's used for the reasons you mentioned.

After 20+ years here, I added my first and only ignore the other day. Won't mention name. Got tired of reading the same uninteresting (politically charged) garbage, over and over. 

I only wish the ignore function would also delete their threads, instead of just posts.

I think I  may have toggled GF in and out of ignore for a brief time, depending on if he was having a manic episode and posting dozens of posts in a row.  Otherwise, no.
