Holy shat  that’s terrible

It is...to me it also highlights why we need common sense legislation on this issue. Again- I'm not advocating now- nor would I ever- an abortion window of like 30+ weeks, however 6 weeks is incredibly too short and just medically speaking may not be feasible. A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks so 20 feels like a good point to use.

I wish the policy in Georgia would've allowed for medical experts to weigh in. They rammed it through against medical advice. But a person who lives in Georgia should have a reasonable window in which to have an abortion and shouldn't have to travel to NC. Places like those clinics serve a purpose but they aren't always the best medically.

It seems you are correct- even more digging produced a legal pamphlet which lays out exactly what the law states:

https://abortiondefensenetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Georgia_ADN-Know-Your-State_Feb-2024.pdf

A D&C after a failed medical abortion is legal in GA. Not sure why this information isn’t easier to find.

I do agree that the stories being run about this are wildly misleading, but I will stand by the fact that if they hadn’t instituted these new laws, she would probably still be alive. But shame on the media for portraying in the light that they are.

I concur with your stance on abortion and will add that I get being pro life. I understand the argument that some people find it morally wrong. But I draw the line on their morals taking precedence over the person that is experiencing it. It doesn’t affect them (pro-lifers) one iota. The only people who should have a say in this are the mother/father and her doctor.

ProPublica is very far left so I would take anything they say like this with a silo full of salt anyway. But to your specific point it is why I said I'd be curious to see what new information comes out. There has to a reason the doctors waited. It may have been awaiting clarification, it may have been pure negligence.

I thought the information already came out. The doctor's didn't wait. She waited to go to the hospital and when she arrived she was promptly attended to with every means necessary but it was too late to save her life. She died from sepsis.

It took them almost 20 hours before they started performing a surgery to try and save her and she died on the operating table. They treated with meds initially.

They were hoping to get her vitals under control, because by the time she came in, she needed a bowel surgery and a hysterectomy. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough time and she died during the operation.

This is what I saw in the article I read:

Quote

She was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, on the evening of August 18, where doctors discovered she had not expelled all the fetal tissue from her body.

She was diagnosed with "acute severe sepsis" the following morning, but even then, a D&C was not done. ProPublica reported that doctors continued to gather information and dispense medicine instead of performing the procedure even as Thurman was breathing rapidly and at risk of bleeding out.

At 12:05 p.m. that day, more than 17 hours after Thurman arrived at the hospital, a doctor who specializes in intensive care notified the OB-GYN that her condition was deteriorating. She was taken to an operating room two hours later.

By that stage, the situation was so dire it required open abdominal surgery. The doctor performed the D&C and found a hysterectomy was also required. During the procedure, Thurman's heart stopped.

Georgia's maternal mortality review committee, which includes 10 doctors, concluded that there was a "good chance" that Thurman's death could likely have been prevented if the D&C had been provided earlier

I think there are some things on the timeline that aren't known yet as far as what they knew and when they knew it. I feel like once they realized there was still fetal tissue the coverage should have advanced some. I do understand giving the meds to get rid of the sepsis but it feels like if she was struggling with that there is more that they should have done at a quicker pace. The article also seems to indicate they didn't know about the hysterectomy need until they opened her up

So the international teamsters union is not endorsing anyone in the election but the local teamster chapters in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada are endorsing Harris/Walz. I believe one in PA had already endorsed them.

Again it shows how there is a difference in national and local unions and what they look for with their endorsements. Obviously though this doesn't necessarily change anything about someone's voting habits and you certainly aren't locked into whatever your union- locally or nationally- supports

Unreal that this happens in todays age.

Congress is demanding that ABC News and Vice President Kamala Harris hand over any communication with the network and campaign team related to the debate earlier this month.

It comes after a sworn affidavit emerged from a whistleblower from an ABC staffer with knowledge that ABC gave Harris an advantage in the debate by providing her the questions ahead of time.

They are the party of conspiracy theories and lies.  It's so sad and disappointing.

I was watching "Stop the Steal" last night on Max.  The depravity of these people is astounding.  And yet 70M people buy into it and will vote for Trump.  Sad.

Reminds me of all those sworn affidavits that went nowhere after the 2020 election.

This is the same Congress that won’t pass a budget right? That has us headed for a shutdown?

Trump said he's gonna cap credit card interest rates at 10%.  This would be yuge for people drowning in credit card debt.  But keep talking about eating cats.

If we can forget that Kamala wants to defund the police, end fracking and mandate EV’s we can forget something from 2009. He evolved too.

Not sure what Robinson could say that would be worse than what he’s already said on record.

He could staunchly defend Roman Polanski for drugging and raping a prepubescent child.  That would be pretty horrible, don't you agree?

I think today is the last day to drop out for North Carolina.

Though it would certainly help Trump and hurt Harris for Robinson to be replaced on the ticket I wouldn’t mind. It’s a disgrace that a guy like Mark Robinson is the GOP candidate for governor anywhere.

The CNN article focuses on unsavory comments Robinson made in several online chatrooms, according to sources familiar with the material.

If what I’m hearing is correct, this story will nuke Robinson’s already dwindling chances of flipping termed-out Democratic governor Roy Cooper’s seat. Today is the drop-out deadline in North Carolina, though ballots are already being printed.

So which geek was he?

Lol...lunatics.  Harris has a very slim chance of winning.   So-called mainstream pollsters early polling in presidential races have heavily slanted towards Democrats in every election since at least Reagan.  The Real numbers nationally are anywhere from Trump +3 to Harris +1.  Trump wins every time if those numbers stay the same.  It is so cute that lefitist idiots keep believing the fraud pollsters.
