Caitlin Clark debut

Recommended Posts

With most of her points coming when the other team stopped pressing her after the game was out of hand she was  5-15 from the field and 4-of-11 from behind the arc. for 20 points and TEN turnovers in a loss? Hey there Tim Tebow.

Yeah, I am so ready for the novelty of her in the WNBA to wear off.

It just shows you how powerful ESPN is because they keep shoving it down our throat that this is good basketball when it’s so painfully obvious it’s not.

Wasn’t she just drafted like a month ago?  Basketball is a team sport, I’m sure she could use some time to get used to her teammates.

Poor lateral quickness, poor off ball defender. Do not draft.

The most EVER for a WNBA debut and only 4 off the league record for any player ever.

It wasn't terrible but she needs to get those turnovers way down.  She still did pretty well with 20 points.  I was really expecting the Clark to Boston connection to be amazing but they haven't clicked yet.  Her teammates need to catch the damn ball and convert.  I imagine it has to be really hard to gel as a team with such a short offseason.  She's still going to have a good season.

She just graduated from Iowa a few days ago.  The draft was a few weeks ago and the NCAA championship game was only a month ago.  It's crazy.

Connecticut is a good team.  They were shooting lights out from the 3-point range and played good defense.  Indiana is not that good of a team.  Just her first game.  It is ridiculous to judge her at this point.

She scored 20 because the other team stopped playing defense. It is like getting excited that a WR put up 57 yards and TD in garbage time when the D is in prevent. You SHOULD be able to do that.

Jalen Brown probably holds the record

Sure

2 of 7 from the field, including 1 of 4 from deep, with no rebounds, one assist, and five turnovers in the first half.  She did not do crap till they stopped pressing her. If it was a close game she probably would have scored 8 points.

If NFL players got drafted in late April and had to play in their first professional game in less than two weeks, they'd be a hot mess, too.

She was double and triple teamed the whole game and her teammates can't catch shite.  I bet half of those turnovers were because of her teammates.  Regardless, they have only played together for a couple weeks.

The regardless part is correct. I don't know what sort of pro Clark will be exactly, but expecting any rookie to look smooth in competition two weeks after being drafted and assigned a team is just stupid.

I'm disappointed in how Boston has looked so far.

Something that is likely to never change.

Yet she still scored 20.  Come on man.  She's going to be just fine.

Who are you talking to and who are you angry at? I didn't say the former and neither did anyone else with half a brain and the latter was always true.

@jonmx knowing which WNBA teams are good is not something I had on my bingo card.

So do we think Clark will actually result in more WNBA viewers (even for just her team’s games) long-term?

If she produces it probably will. If she puts up 8-10 points a night she will be considered a bust and no other woman will get a shoe for many years to come.

Shouldnt you be out telling women to be subservient to men and buying a Butker jersey?

Define “produces.”   Jewel Lloyd averaged 25 points per game last year and I’ve never heard of her until I just looked it up right now

Yea but Lloyd did not come with the hype Clark has. She HAS to be averaging like 30 points a game for her hype to stay. 30 points average is the top ever in the WNBA. So she needs a big game every game to keep the spotlight on her. Otherwise people are going to say her game could not translate to the grown ups game. Much like tim tebow

10 turnovers is extremely embarrassing.  They showed all of her highlights on CBS HQ. Afterwards there was a graphic showing the most turnovers for a player's debut. The previous high was 8 and a bunch of players at 7.  The funny thing is, out of the 8 player list, 6 of them on the list were from 1997, the debut season. So her 10 turnovers is even worse if you don't count what was likely a shiit show for the WNBA's first ever games.

As for her points, at least 3 of her 3 pointers came with decent defense in her face and were impressive shots. When all is said and done I would expect her to be one of the most prolific shooters in WNBA history

whatever that means.

I thought women's basketball was good.  I watched about 10 minutes of final 4 basketball before punching out and both teams were turnover machines.  Now I'm seeing wnba players can't catch passes?

Let me go to ESPN and figure out what to think.

Fair enough. I didn’t realize that she did average over 30 in college last season so that seems like a reasonable number to actually increase WNBA viewership.  But 20 in her first game a few weeks after getting drafted doesn’t seem so bad
