Flying the flag is not disrespectful, it's a sign of distress.

According to United States Flag Code, a legally non-enforceable set of guidelines that establish rules for display and care of the country's flags, flags are not to be flown upside-down except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

My flag will not make its next appearance until the 4th of July.  Its last appearance was Memorial Day weekend.  When it is flown it will be right side up.

 

As for my neighborhood I have seen no upside down flags signalling distress.  We do have a guy two blocks away that has four Trump flags on his pickup.  I wonder if that invites vandalism from folks on the other end of the political spectrum from him.
