Ohio is sending troopers and $2.5 million to a city that has seen an influx of Haitian migrants

Recommended Posts

Even the Leftie AP is reporting this.  But it isn't a thing.  Or, it is happening, but not widespread.

The MSM will continue to focus on Trump chasing the shiny object about people eating cats, to obfuscate from the real issue, which is that you can't flood an area with migrants from a different culture without serious negative consequences.

I honestly don't understand why the Left hates the country they live in so much.  Perhaps @The Real timschochet can quote economic statistics from the early 1900s to justify it?

This is what I referenced in a recent thread, part of the true existential crisis of our country.

What isn’t a thing?  The MSM isn’t focusing on the dogs and cats, the right is.

Umm, the Left is focusing plenty on the dogs and cats.

I take it from your response that you don't agree with my point?  That's a very centrist position for you.

JD Vance - If we have to make memes (that got millions and millions of views on X) to draw attention to what's happening then we'll keep doing it.

You're welcome Springfield.

This whole thing is wild.

Dewine's kid died in a car accident where she crossed the center line. Overcome with grief they dove into charity work in Haiti. They started a school and named it after her.

No doubt via the Dewine connection they bring a bunch of haitians into Ohio.

Then some dumb haitian crosses the center line and kills a kid.

Then a bunch of teachers and students in haiti get killed and the school has to close.

Good god.

Hope i never meet that cursed dude.

The Associated Press is one of the most unbiased, facts-based media entities in the land. It resides top center on the media-bias chart, with the X axis being bias and the Y axis being facts-based.

You labeling it as a "leftie" organization just underscores how MAGAturds label anything to the left of their far-right selves as "leftie."

The mayor has a task force setup now to handle drivers ed for haitians.

Gee, i wonder why...

"HAITIAN DRIVING: Although Haitian law requires that applicants pass both a written and a driving test to qualify for a driver’s license, many Haitian drivers appear unaware of traffic laws. Signaling imminent actions is not widely practiced and not all drivers use turn indicators or international hand signals properly. For instance, many drivers use their left blinker for all actions, including turning right and stopping in the road, and others flap their left arm out the window to indicate that they will be taking an unspecified action. Drivers do not always verify that the road is clear before switching lanes, turning, or merging. "

If your point is you think the influx of Haitians in Springfield has added “serious negative consequences” then no, I’m not sure I agree as a whole.

I’ve actually read a lot about this issue and have been posting in the other thread.  As I said there, the main “negative consequence” for the prior residents is that the Haitians have caused a lot of car accidents.   And the overall increase in residents (nothing to do with them being a different culture) has caused a need for more housing, even though prices have only increased at about the same rate as the national average.

However, prior to the Haitians arriving, the population had been declining.  Jobs were brought to the area that the locals couldn’t or didn’t want to fill, which is why the Haitians were brought in.  Employers report the Haitians are reliable and hardworking. And even in all of the recent videos of people going there, I have not seen a single person claim the Haitians are committing violent crime against other residents.  It’s always either about the car accidents, overflowing trash cans, blaming them for higher rents, or being mad that they’re getting government assistance.  Or rumors of them eating cats and wild animals.

Take a town of 60,000 Americans and ship in 20,000 Haitians. What could possibly go wrong?

Negatives to the influx- Overcrowded schools and increased traffic accidents

Positives from the influx- No room for Venezualan gangs and the animal control department can be eliminated creating quite a budgetary savings.

Ah, the expert journalismer has spoken.

Somebody already showed an example.  Another is in their headlines, which is more insidious:  when the American hostage was brutally murdered by the evil terrorist Hamas, their headline was along the lines of "American hostage dies in Gaza", obfuscating the truth.

And oh yeah, Allsides rates the AP as leans left, not center.  https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-chart

Your reading-comprehension skills suck. I said "one of the most unbiased, facts-based media entities in the land."

But you proved my point by posted a link showing the AP right there near the top when it comes to being facts-based and just left of center. It has always "leaned" slightly left, but because it's left of you, you lump it in there with Mother Jones.

If you look at the top of this chart, you'll see a lot of entities, including the Associated Press, just left of center, while there is a whole lot of white space on the right. You have to move farther right and down to start running into the right news sources, which means they tend to be more opinionated and less facts-based, hence their misinformation regarding Haitians eating pets and Venezuelan gangs taking over entire cities.

https://adfontesmedia.com/interactive-media-bias-chart/

I'd LOVE to see what information sources you consider to be the least biased and most facts-based.

And I do know way more than anyone else here about the media, since I spent 30 years in it.

Stay in your lane and go shine your own shoes, dumbass.

I'd appreciate more details on the bolded.  It seems odd that an area with people who were looking for work would not be willing to work.  I doubt it is "could" not because what would Haitian migrants be more qualified to do?  Also, presumably the factory/warehouse was put there with the expectation that local people would work there.  :dunno:

So the AP leans left in my source, and in your source, and that's your big win?

My source is easier to read:  they are in the same group as hack sources like NPR, USA Today, CNN, WaPo...  There are plenty listed in the center.  Reuters is pretty good, as are WSJ News and Real Clear Politics.

If you need any schooling in the journalism field, just let me know, I'm here to help.

He also said they were "top center".  Not sure how he calls that a win, when they're clearly left leaning.

By “couldn’t,” I meant there were apparently more openings than unemployed people, not they they were jobs the prior residents couldn’t do, at least according to Amy Donahoe, who is the director for workforce development for the Greater Springfield Partnership (as of April 2022)

Source - https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/60-clark-county-employers-are-looking-to-hire-during-thursday-job-fair/B6PP3RAXXRBG3N5BIMVITSSBPM/

The above link doesn’t even mention Haitians, but Ms Donahoe was also quoted in a recent article about the Haitians, saying “We needed a workforce. They are coming in and they are working hard and they want to make money."

Source: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/haitian-immigrants-fueled-springfields-growth-now-us-presidential-debate-2024-09-11/

One other comment from that article I found interesting was about the rent issue.  It does show rent prices increasing faster than the national average (I’ve seen conflicting data on that), but actually states the number of vouchers being used is down, which suggests that Haitians aren’t actually using government vouchers for housing specifically.  Which if true would be an interesting twist if people complaining about the Haitians being on government assistance and forcing them to get evicted, were themselves on government housing assistance.  (For the record I don’t think that should happen and seems to ultimately be due to slumlords, but it would still be a bit hypocritical IMO)

Speaking of Haitians being taken advantage of, that could be another reason employers like them.  This article is kinda vague but apparently some businesses are being investigated for planning to bring in immigrants without town officials’ knowledge- https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/springfield-mayor-investigation-into-businesses-immigration-continues/W4OJQYSNUBF7JCMSD72VVQGNQI/

I also posted the below article in the other thread which I thought gave a good overview of the overall situation from before the recent hysteria, and also talks about labor shortages:

That's a lot of links, but I don't see anything about jobs the local people wouldn't do.

Also, your links, particularly the first, outline both the bad and the good of having so many new people there.  Costs like Medicaid, translation services, rising rents (which you acknowledged above).
