Recommended Posts

Montgomery County passed legislation in 2024 to address environmental, noise, and health concerns related to gas-powered leaf blowers and vacuums. Sales of gas-powered equipment have been banned since July 1, 2024, and the ban on their use officially begins this Tuesday, July 1

This would never happen in L.A. - all the landscapers/gardeners I see (who are Latino) use a leaf blower.

I am not even close to am environmental weirdo.  But i love my electric weed trimmer and edger.  Way more than my old gas ones.  I had an older plug in blower which was good. The battery one i have isnt as good.  Never had a gas leaf blower.

As someone that enjoys spending time outside without hearing the endless droning of leaf blowers, I wish we had this in NJ.

Mow your lawn yourself.

I've got the Greenworks 80V system with blower, mower, and hedge trimmer.  Focking phenomenal.  Our lawns in Phoenix are smaller than a lot of yooz who live in rainy, shiotty places, so it might not have enough life for larger lawns.  But the blower is great -- almost as good as a gas-powered, and plenty of juice.  The hedge trimmer was a bit of a luxury -- I already had a Ryobi 20V one, but I've got some large bougainvillea and oleander which need manlier muscle.

I like doing my own yard work, especially bulk trash collection.  I like looking at my yard and thinking yeah, I did that.

I just let natural wind blow my leaves into the neighbor's yard.

Once again, the world can't follow the rule of KISS. Keep it simple stupid.

The solution is to mulch your leaves in the fall. If you don't have a mulch mower, start on the outside and work your way in. Might have to do it 2 or 3 times late in the year, but it works great, & is good for the lawn.

CA doesn't outlaw their use, but gas powered is no longer sold in CA.

Most of the people I know just drive to NV to buy one.

ETA: They don't really bother me. The yards where I live are relatively small, so if there's any leaf blowing, it's not much. The common areas around the neighborhood have landscapers and gardeners that come and mow, etc. But they aren't close enough to my house for it to cause a big disturbance.

I have the greeworx blower and trimmer, work great.  I need a gas tractor as I have over an acre of mowable grass and the electric ones are stupid expensive.

My battery-operated one would blow the chrome off a trailer hitch. Not sure why anyone would want a gas-powered blower.

What does a leaf blower and a flute player have in common?

It's similar to why Europeans suffer without air conditioning. Because they have been conditioned to believe that ridiculous things like this make any difference.

I have a John Deere riding mower to use on my two acres and just mulch the shat out of the leaves in the fall. My dumb neighbor puts his leaves and grass clippings into his burn pile and waits until its moist and with a southerly wind to set it on fire and smoke up the neighborhood.

Because it can be used longer and it's more powerful than a battery powered one.

We have all battery powered stuff here too; mower, leaf blower, weed eater/edger. They are great. Haven't had a gas mower in over 15 years I think.

What the fock are you blowing off your tiny-ass scrubby lawn in the Valley, dirt? I have a quarter- acre yard and hardly ever use my blower except to clear clippings off the driveway and sidewalk or the leaves out of my garage(which I rarely do). When it's time to get rid of leaves, I have rakes and kids.

If I lived alone, I'd be in a condo or townhouse and let someone else do all that shite. Best thing about winter is no yard work.

I use my electric blower for small jobs, like clippings on the driveway or around the pool. The big boy gas blower comes out in the fall when the leaves are dropping.

I will never ever buy an electric mower. I need a gas powered riding mower for my lawn.

I have closer to 1/2 acre;  my back and side walls are lined with 8 each bougainvillea and oleander, plus some miscellaneous bushes, all of which generates a decent amount of leaves.  I cut the grass every week, and blow maybe every other.  I actually got it for my previous house which had a much larger yard and grown trees.

Like I said, I like doing it.  I'm not that guy out there with scissors trimming the grass to a perfect length, but I like when it looks nice.

My son is 29 and has owned a house for like 5 years.  His yard looks like shiot.  His GF's parents just the place for the first time; odds are they'll be his inlaws some day.  I can't imagine they were impressed.  I told my wife I think I'm going to pull him aside, slap him in the head, and tell him he is an adult and home owner, take some focking pride man.  ☹️

One of my walls has a 3 foot raised planter along it with some of the bougainvillea and other stuff; it's otherwise just dirt, not rocks.  For that, I sometimes cover the hole in my throat with a scarf to prevent dirt clogging up the filter I have over it.

the endless droning of leaf blowers?   I really hope you are being sarcastic.

Hell, I see more people raking up piles of leaves than even using leaf blowers of any kind. And I would list the distant sound of someone mowing their lawn as one of the classic signs or nostalgic sounds of spring/summer after dreary winter has ended.

This, only their little backyard wood burning fire pit...and barking-dog owners.  I've never seen a battery-powered lawn tool worthy of buying.  Craftsman still makes great motorized yard tools.
