Trump signs an executive order to ban burning of the US flag

Recommended Posts

Very nice Donald, except flag burning is a Constitutionally protected act under the First Amendment, per 1989 Supreme Court ruling.

If Don spent even a fraction of the time he wastes on culture war bull doing his job, the economy would be as good as he thinks it is.

Not really since his economic ideas are just terrible.

OK, so, let's follow the Trump logic here...

Bashing a cop on the head with the US flag on Jan 6 gets you a pardon, but burning it will now get you a year in jail...

That makes sense. 😕

We're leaving wokesters, liberals and communists behind. No more criminals. No supporters of criminals. If you don't agree with where the country is going, go to Canada, Europe, or Mexico or the Middle East (hahaha).

So, are they talking about burning a government owned US flag, or a personal one? Because there's a big difference.

From my cursory reading of the executive order I don't think Trump has made any distinction.

When I see old glory waving

I think of all the brave men

Who have fought and died for what is right and wrong

When I see old glory burning

My blood begins to churnin

And I could do some fighting of my own

I’m a flag waving patriotic

 Nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

Yeah, I don't see any distinction either. Then, it's bullchit. I hate the whole "inciting a riot" crap. If you see someone burning a government owned flag, call the cops. If you see someone burning their own flag, walk away. If you start rioting in either case, that's on you.

Don’s handlers will probably tell him lots of libs are serving year long prison sentences for flag burning now, so he can feel like he did a thing.

Exactly. And can anyone remember the last time someone burning a US flag incited a riot? Maybe in the Vietnam protests era, but I can't recall anything in more recent memory.

Weeks would go by and I’d forget Joe was even POTUS.

He probably forgot too.

Go set one on fire outside your local VFW and let us know how it goes.

From google AI

Pardons for January 6 rioters
  • Violent crimes were not pardoned. Donald Trump, upon re-entering office in January 2025, did issue broad pardons for some individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, attack. However, these pardons did not extend to everyone and notably included commutations for convicted leaders of extremist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.
  • Assaulting police was still punished. The claim that assaulting a police officer with a flag or any weapon was pardoned is false. As of early 2025, there was no blanket pardon for violent offenses against law enforcement. Individuals who were convicted of assaulting officers during the riot, including one who used a stun gun and another who pleaded guilty to assault, received substantial prison sentences.
  • Broad pardons were controversial. The pardons that were issued covered a wide range of lesser offenses related to the Capitol attack, including trespassing and disorderly conduct. The pardons were highly controversial, with some members of Congress and law enforcement officers condemning the decision.
  • :dunno:

Burning the US flag is perfectly acceptable but you can get a 15+1 year prison sentence for burning the Battle Flag of the Democrat Party. https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/iowa-man-sentenced-15-years-after-burning-church-s-lgbtq-n1105131

So true. Everytime I go to the grocery store it burns.

That was true during Biden too, but I don't remember you complaining then.  In fact, I'm pretty sure you were touting how great everything was.

I argued then that inflation would eventually go down, because it was mainly caused by the Covid 19 crisis. I think I was right about that. This time around the inflation is caused by the tariffs, and completely unnecessary.

I wonder if those cops go to work every morning thinking "what kinda ridiculous crap am I gonna have to deal with today because POTUS did something stupid yesterday?"

Nah. They go to work wondering if today is the day I encounter a predicate felon that should rightfully be behind bars but liberals think prison is mean so he’s not.
