Kopy 493 Posted July 17, 2017 Anyone got a late round sleeper this year? Do to free agency, the draft, schedule. Gut feeling even. Who you got?
BobSanders_33 127 Posted July 17, 2017 You are going to get a defense in the late round and I'm not too worried with taking a D earlier than most to lock in an every week play at the position. You can stream a D but I'm more likely to stream QBs or a high upside flex player. With that being my strategy it is hard to stream at 3 positions. With that being said I will be looking to get Seattle or Denver early. That isn't what you are interested in but with Seattle you get Rams (x2), 49ers (x2), Jags, Texans and Arizona (I think Plamer is a sitting duck this year). I also like how Denver's schedule is set up and as always I plan on making the playoffs. If I don't get a first round bye rolling them out against NYJ in Week 14 will be a nice boost. A little bit later I also like the Patriots. They now have two excellent corners. I expect them to start to throttle other teams at put them in passing situations which will allow for some sacks and turnovers. If you are planning on a late D and then streaming I would just look at who plays NYJ, Cleveland and Houston (Savage is garbage) near the start of the season. giraldi02 470 Posted July 17, 2017 Said it last year and will say it this year as well, the Philadelphia Eagles are a great fantasy defense to target. They won't be among the first 10 defenses selected yet have a very realistic chance of being a top-5 defense for the second year in a row. They bolstered their special teams in the draft by getting Mack Hollins and Donnel Pumphrey. Hollins is the one to focus on though for this. He likely won't be a return specialist, but rather a solid gunner. It's not a position that will gain fantasy football credibility, but field position matters in a big way. They also added Tim Jernigan and Derek Barnett which will help their suspect secondary. If not the Eagles, I will likely have some exposure to the Atlanta Falcons' defense. Their speed/athleticism at linebacker and in the secondary appeals to the modern NFL. They might be a sneaky good real life defense this season
Hawkeye21 1,874 Posted July 17, 2017 Wait till the end of the draft and take the best DST you see there. I usually like to get New England but they seem to be going a bit higher this year. Last year my gut told me to take the Vikings and I was right on the money. This year I've one of the last teams to take a DST in snake drafts and have been taking the Eagles or Panthers. weepaws 2,485 Posted July 17, 2017 I do like the Falcons this season. I think they will be a team able to put a lot of pressure on the QB this season. Plus like it was posted about speed at both lb and sec. But I'm weary of taking the Eagles again this season. I was blessed to be able to pick up either the Eagles or the Vikings on most of my teams last season. Eagles had a great start avg over 8 points per games the first six games they played in. But the last ten they avg only 4 points per game.

Yeah I remember you and I were among the few that were bullish on the Vikings defense a year ago at this time on here. The writing was on the wall too that they were going to be good. Hell, I had them as my #2 defense behind Denver, but I didn't think they were going to come out of the gates in the way they did lol
ralphster 274 Posted July 17, 2017 My darkhors pick for a cheap DST would be Jax.
giraldi02 470 Posted July 18, 2017 My darkhors pick for a cheap DST would be Jax. Myles Jack better improve in coverage from what I saw of him. A boatload of talent though on that side of the ball. If Fournette can help churn the clock, they might have a '14 Cowboys like "surprise" defense.
Mike FF Today 611 Posted July 18, 2017 My darkhors pick for a cheap DST would be Jax. I like this pick along with LA Chargers.
TBayXXXVII 2,145 Posted July 18, 2017 Tampa Bay. What did the Bucs all of a sudden get a pass rush? I wouldn't even pick them up on waivers let alone draft them.

weepaws 2,485 Posted July 18, 2017 If I was you I wouldn't draft them. But I'm still going to pick them as a sleeper pick, and based from what was said I wouldsay they are truly a sleeper pick. They posted some good points last season. They did finish in the top ten in ff points. I'm going to pick them as my sleeper pick, now which team Defence would be your sleeper pick? As for a pass rush they where 7th in the league with 38 sacks.
jdon 28 Posted July 19, 2017 ok. bear with me. Cleveland. I like gregg williams as a coordinator. I think Jabril peppers is a stud. you don't even have to draft them. just watch them the first two weeks... then pick them up.

I've seen him play and I always felt he was pretty overrated.
Ray_T 597 Posted July 19, 2017 if you are gonna make a bet on one player turning the cleveland D around, Garrett is where my money is gonna go. That guy is a BEAST. The reality is I think that team needs one more playmaker before the D is worth considering in Cleveland.

Peppers is the kind of guy who increases the value of the entire defense with his speed and tackling. Its a margins thing Also, Garrett is obviously an impact player. Kopy 493 Posted July 19, 2017 I've seen a couple sites touting a much, MUCH improved Cleveland D. I'm just not sure that Offense can stay competitive enough that the D can get enough rest, and just not break down at the end of the game. When I started this post, I was kinda feeling the Chargers myself. I like all the different opinions here.

When I started this post, I was kinda feeling the Chargers myself. I like all the different opinions here. No. Even if the D is top 5, if the offense cannot stay on the field, the D will wear down and give up points late in games (or when the offense turns the ball over) I think I said earlier that they need one more playmaker to truly be a good D as well. Garrett is a beast, but one guy will not make all of the difference.
Hawkeye21 1,874 Posted July 20, 2017 Dolphins, Panthers, Giants and Ravens were all defenses that finished the year well and could all finish in the top 10 this year.
weepaws 2,485 Posted July 20, 2017 Panthers are another team I like. They did have injuries on Defence last season, and if Cam comes out playing like he did two seasons ago I think their Defence can put up some ff points.
DrG 94 Posted July 23, 2017 For leagues w return scoring Carolina would seem to get a boost if McCaffery is used on special teams. Both the Jets and Bills seem to have a lot of questions. They were hit and miss last year but Miami is a team to watch

Eagles had a great start avg over 8 points per games the first six games they played in. But the last ten they avg only 4 points per game. agreed. Atl should put up more DT points than suggested by its very low ADP. Good value. I usually go with NE. Can always get NE later than the top 6-7 Def while NE always produce about as much fantasy production or more. NE defense is underdrafted every year. NE has a knack for scoring TDs on turnovers. DocNiner 44 Posted July 28, 2017 4 I might consider are the Giants, Jags, Bucs & LA Chargers.
polecatt 404 Posted July 29, 2017 I said it on another thread, the Cowboys could be a steal this season Maybe not but they have a lot of new faces, including a blazing new kick returner, and if some of them pay off, this could be a good unit
SAA 12 Posted August 9, 2017 My league just changed from having a cap on number of transactions in a year to unlimited. While studying defenses, it got me thinking. In the past I would be more picky on what defense I took, because I didn't want to waste a precious transaction on getting a different Defense. This year I think I am going to try the streaming method. Will simply look at the schedule and try to find a matchup that is desirable. So I think I am going to draft the Buffalo Bills this year. They play the Jets week #1. This allows me to definitely wait until the last pick. I'm assuming they will be available, as they are currently ranked #21 on the Yahoo Football Site. Make sense? robb 71 Posted August 9, 2017 I have completed my Defense Teams By Committee module (I used to do it every year at FFToday) showing which teams make the best Combo for the year. And, you can adjust it for in-season rankings as well. Send me an email at: robbaustin@gmail.com if you would like me to send you a copy. Any guesses on the 2 teams that have the best schedules to stream?? And, the 2 teams who are not in any Top 5 defenses which make the best combo?

Maulers1973 117 Posted August 10, 2017 What position is he even going to play? Peppers will be lining up as the SS. Also, Browns homer here. Pumps the breaks a little on the Browns defense as a viable FF option. Are they improved? Yes, however they were nearly last in every category!! They have NO free safety, an inexperienced and unproven MLB in Tank Carder, and the WIL is a good to average Kirksey. Plus, will Haden stay healthy? If not, that's a big hole to fill. They won't finish last, but I doubt they sniff top 15. My darkhorse for DST is the Titans. They added some real talent on the defensive side of the ball. That's going to be a very good team. They might even be a SB contender.
SaintsInDome2006 128 Posted September 2, 2017 I will say there's nothing worse than reading threads like this weeks later when your impulses are proved totally wrong but here goes... One thing that happens every year is a DST will emerge, have a couple weeks and no one will trust them because of their rep, so they sit on the WW. - Cleveland- Gregg Williams is D.C. And they're looking good. - Saints - this may not happen... but they've looked great in preseason, they've looked good at camp, they had a good draft, and they've turned over the LB corps. I drafted them for Week 1 but hopefully that doesn't bite me.
Bobbyn2022 53 Posted September 2, 2017 I have Minn and Panthers with Eagles on the waiver should I hold 3 DST? Eagles do t seem to have any good matchups imo.
Ray_T 597 Posted September 2, 2017 Chargers seem like a solid choice Yeah, 2nd half of last year, the D was starting to look pretty good. With another year of experience for their young stars, I wouldnt be surprised if they ended up a top 10 fantasy D. Maybe even top 5 if everything shook out right.
