Why does Apple still have these "press conferences" when they announce a new iPhone?

Recommended Posts

Dumb.

Its 2017. No one gives a fock like they used to. 5+ years ago, the new stuff on phones was usable.

Now, the new stuff is just stuff like "open the phone with your eyeball or your face" or "we've removed the headphone jack or home button", or "If you turn the phone sideways, it will automatically take a picture". In a few years it'll be "We've brought back the home button!"

The best thing they could do with phones, is make the back cover slide off and have a replaceable battery like the old days.

Today, the cases and screen protectors are so good, phones are lasting longer and people don't care if they are a version or two behind...so people WOULD just keep their phones. But nope. The manufacturers will have nothing to do with that. They sealed the phones so that after about 2 years max, your phone charge won't last more than a couple hours or it won't charge at all. So, instead of buying a new battery for $20, you are forced to buy a new phone for $800. Fockfaces.

I just got my battery replaced, cost $80, but I don't have any interest in getting a new phone. A better camera doesn't interest me, and losing the headphone jack is bullshit

Paying a grande for a phone is crazy talk. I'll keep doing what I'm doing, stay a generation or two behind for 1/2 of the price.

Ditto.

Next month, I will have completed my lease agreement for my Galaxy s7... There is a stipulation that says after that, I can purchase the phone for an additional $166........... I'm going to tell T-Mobile that I just paid them $600 in lease payments for this phone already, they can now either: 1) just give me the phone, since I've basically already paid for it, or 2) go fock themselves - I'll go to a new carrier and get a phone there.

Well worth it for $80.

Some batteries can be replaced...but the water resistant phones....often the places won't touch them. I had a Samsung 6 Active, and they to me 'nope'. So I bought a Samsung 8.

Apple announcements were awesome when Jobs did them. Marketing master mind. The way he built suspense for a product is unmatched by anyone.

I thought about that, but decided to go with current generation for 1/4 of the price. I just got a new phone and went with a Moto G5 for 200 dollars. It is unlocked and works with any carrier. There is nothing that it can't do that a 700+ dollar phone is capable of.

The iPhone X is a sexy beast though. I may have to trade up.

What is so great about it? What actually appeals to you?

The technical dropoff from the top phone to a cheap one is negligible these days. Month to month plan with a free phone upgrade every 90 days is such a ridiculously good deal, I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. Laziness, I guess. :dunno:

Because people keep paying attention....lining up for preorders of their new products and so on.

The only issue I have had while not having a headphone jack is accepting cards via square is more of a pain with that stupid dongle attachment.

I have bluetooth headphones that I use pretty much exclusively anyway...and if I want to use an older corded pair...the dongle works just fine.

I always hated the fact that Jobs looked like a jr college professor on stage with his stupid black turtleneck and mom jeans. The new guy wears stupid sweaters too.

This is the smart play just like buying a used car is smart.

But a Frahs isn't really that crazy.

People pay that much or much more for a laptop.

Well this is a tiny computer that fits in your pocket. It can do many more things than a laptop and many people use them all day, everyday - no matter where they are or what they're doing.

It ain't just a phone no mo'.

I'm getting the 8 over the X for sure. For 300$ more, the X just has the edge to edge screen (don't like), facial recognition (don't like, wouldn't use) and animated emoji (dont care). The 8 has the same chip, ARkit, and keeps the form factor I know and love from iPhone. Plus it comes out a couple months before.

I suspect that this announcement was the reason I couldn't get a hotel room in the bay area and needed to use Airbnb this week. :dunno:

The product is in widespread demand. The keynotes cover all the features and details of these products that people are interested in. I enjoy them as it gives me more information to decide if I want to upgrade or not. I'd rather an in depth keynote than some commercial with people dancing in slow motion.

Apple sold 212 million iPhones in 2016 - you do the math... Hell, I'd hold monthly pressers with those kind of results.

I have debated a plus but it might be too big for me. I use my iPad most of the time and like the form of the regular size iPhone.

Everyone everywhere. I'm in two dif FF text threads, 22 people, only one has android, causing the text to be green instead of blue. All walks of life and dif kinds of people in both leagues. The non iPhone user in any crowd is a talking point usually, an oddity. Funny that it's such a trendy thing to bash yet almost everyone has them, even tech people who "should know better" apparently. I despise all other apple products aside from iPhone/iPad.

I like the updated camera specs and processing power - I'm all for that, I use that stuff a ton and I'm looking for more.

But why no "Home button? and dancing emoji's is dumb.

No home button means my old-ass has to re-learn how to do simple shiat all over again... I'll be waiving and gesturing and swiping like a dumb ass.

I believe the no home button is for the X and not the 8?

Indeed, that's the X while the 8 retains the same form as the 7 for 300$ less and has the same new chip and better camera.

I bash them because like i said earlier. I just bought a phone for 200 dollars and it is just as good.

I am not a brand person, I would switch to apple if their prices became less than that of apple, but your stats are wrong. Android has a larger market share of the US phone market than apple.

can you back up the entire phone, apps and all with 1 click and if you lose your phone have it all backed up?

Yes, this has been possible for a few years.
