shovelheadt 71 Posted September 4, 2006 I expected something bloodier. As much as he's done, to get taken out by a fluke stingray poke is pretty cheap.
Bill E. 703 Posted September 4, 2006 I expected something bloodier. As much as he's done, to get taken out by a fluke stingray poke is pretty cheap. Â Really. I dive around Stingrays all the time in murky rivers. I always worry a little bit about getting stung. I knew those stings were very painful, but never thought of them as deadly. Bill E. 703 Posted September 4, 2006 Apparently they're not, it just happened to pierce his heart. Â It makes sense, that would do it. I have always worried about the rays more than sharks or gators, because stings are much more common. I saw a couple of them Saturday. I usually dive four days a week so I figure some day it might all catch up with me. It is too bad about his death. I was not a big fan, but like someone said, he was an interesting character. swamp dog 0 Posted September 4, 2006 he was always trying to provoke animals into striking at him in order to get the sensational film shot. no doubt he was purposely provoking the sting ray, knowing that a sting ray sting isn't fatal. Â oops.

I feel bad about it, more than I would about someone here (other than those I've met). It always sucks to see someone die that was actually a well liked, contributing member of society. He's done a ton of good sh*t for the Australian Zoo.

It always sucks to see someone die that was actually a well liked, contributing member of society. He's done a ton of good sh*t for the Australian Zoo. Â I was SHOCKED! just because I read it on CNN at like 4 am and it was just so weird to read. I was very sad, not quite to the point of tears, much more sad than a make believe person getting into a make believe accident. Â Why isnt everyone falling out sad? Thin Spirit 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Like edjr, I was shocked when I read it, more of a 'i can't believe i'm reading this' type feeling. Â Two young kids who were his world and a wife that he was incredibly close with, left behind, I feel so sorry for them. Â Another great guy who has done many, many great things that has been taken far too early

lambert58 73 Posted September 4, 2006 Steve Irwin: "Wow, look at this beautiful creature. The StingRay, while deadly, is actually fairly harmless if  left alone in his habitat. Most of the stings from this creature is a result of human carelessness. My  goodness look at how beautiful this speciman is. Let's take a closer look. Hello luv, my aren't you  gorgeous? Watch as I am able to swim close enough to rub the bloke on his back. What a smoo..  AHHHGGGG YOU MOTHER#@$%%, AHHHHH HELP ME DAMMIT, drop the focking camera and help me,  AHHHHGGH, gurgle, gurgle." Rybo5 0 Posted September 4, 2006 no doubt he was purposely provoking the sting ray, knowing that a sting ray sting isn't fatal. Â oops. Â According to CNN the stingray was buried in the sand, so I assume it probably caught him by surprise.
