I am predicting that Jacob is not a human being-- either a machine or an animal or an artifact.

None of you thought of that one, did ya?

Bump for what I think is the best speculation about this show.

3 more seasons. Not sure how I feel about that. At least we know exactly when it will end.

Two more episodes/weeks this year. I am anticipating some mindblowing sh!t.

Later today EW.com will be posting an interview with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse where they discuss the last three episodes of the the season. Think they hold back, or tell us a bunch of stuff we already know? THINK AGAIN! Doc Jensen extracts some pretty cool info, and you read it correctly you'll begin to get a few crazy ideas about where LOST is heading.

EW: There's only three episodes left. What is it about this week’s episode that sets the stage for the Jack-centric finale, airing May 23?

CUSE: Well, it’s Ben flashback, so it kind of really roots into the mythological history of the show and answers some important questions about the relationship between The Dharma Initiative and The Others. Ben is such a formative character, he is the biggest bad guy we know on the show. To get to know him is a signal that we’ve become an answer-mode kind of show.

LINDELOF: And more importantly, we meet Jacob--the elusive, unseen, presumed leader of The Others--for the first time. And this is a character who is every bit of significance to our universe as the Emperor was to the Star Wars universe—a character that you didn’t get to meet until The Return of the Jedi but was referred to all through the preceding films. Jacob is a guy who is going to have a very significant ongoing sort of story value in our show.

EW: Who’s playing this character—someone new, or someone we know?

LINDELOF: We’re not going to answer that.

EW: Does the finale set up season four?

CUSE: Yes. The finale clearly sets up season four of the show, and hopefully in doing so, people will see there is still a lot of storytelling left in Lost and feel really good about the 48 number.

LINDELOF: And it will make you realize that the house you are standing in actually has a lot more rooms than you thought when you came into it.

EW: Nice cryptic teasing analogy! Last question. Don’t tell my wife, but I have a crush on Mrs. Hawking, the creepy old lady from Desmond’s flashbacks who knows all about his future.

LINDELOF: Huh. I don’t even know how to respond to that.

EW: There is no other response, other than telling me whether I’ll be seeing her again before the end of the season.

CUSE: Can we just back up half a second? Once you say something like that, Jeff, it can’t be unsaid.

LINDELOF: Unless you travel back in time, like Mrs. Hawking does. But no, you won’t be seeing her before the end of the season--but you will be seeing her again.

Nice subtlety! So, Mrs. Hawking is someone who travels through time. What do you make of the analogy of the island has a house with extra rooms.

Not necessarily, it still needs to pull ratings or it will get the axe.

Not necessarily, it still needs to pull ratings or it will get the axe.

I read recently that it is the most taped/DVR'ed show.

But in its third season "Lost" took a nose dive, with recent episodes drawing 12 million or fewer viewers. A time-slot change, to 10 p.m. Wednesday, which put it up against CBS' "CSI: NY," was a factor.

Viewership numbers also don't reflect how many people save the shows on their digital video recorders to watch more than 24 hours later, and "Lost" gains viewers when the DVR audience is taken into account.

Handicapping the dead:

Since we have all heard about 4 or 5 more people dying, let’s explore who might be taking a dirt nap in the near future. A really good indicator is someone that has pretty much had everything significant in their past revealed through flashbacks or had a life changing experience/epiphany (Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Mr. Eko, Nikki, Paulo) Or the character wasn’t important enough to warrant a flashback (Colleen, Goodwin, Ethan, Dr Artz, Nathan, etc.) Chances of dying by conclusion of Season 3…and if I missed anyone, let me know.

Sawyer: Extremely likely. What more is there to tell about Sawyer? We saw him fulfill his life’s ambition by killing the man who ruined his life last week. We know his conning history, he told Jack about meeting Jack’s dad. No more possible flashbacks. Nothing. And the island may be upset after Sawyer killed Cooper. See ya.

Kate: Extremely likely: What more is there to tell about Kate? Her last flashback sucked, as it seemed to be stretching out her back story. We now about her killing her father, with several episodes devoted to it. Enough all ready. I’m tired of her batting her eyelashes at Jack and Sawyer. See ya.

Ben: Extremely likely. As much as I like this character, he has a flashback upcoming this week, and many characters have died soon after a flashback episode centered on that character. While he has tons of potential back story to come, the island may demand him to die for putting its favorite son in the awkward position of being forced to kill his father. See ya.

Jin: Extremely likely: Well, he is the father. Now what? His back story is pretty much done.

Naomi: Extremely likely: Great. She told us the survivors are dead, and has a useless phone, and speaks 73 languages. Now what. She won’t tell any more, and is useless other wise. Are they going to do a flashback on her? I doubt it. See ya

Jack: Possible. He is going to be working on a movie this summer and fall, Speed Racer, and may or may not be returning to the cast for Season 4. Seems like his back story is over. But they forced that stupid tattoo episode on us, so they see to be stretching it out a bit. The only reason to keep him around is to see if he is permanent part of the others.

Charlie. Possible. They made such a big deal of him dying but Desmond saving him, I think the swerve is to keep him alive.

Juliette: Possible. I think she is doing a great job with her character. But her back story is pretty much done. Her desire to leave at any cost may cost her life. Her relationship with Jack is blossoming. If he sticks around, she will probably do so as well.

Claire: Possible. Realistically, they aren’t going to kill off the mother of a new born. But I can still hope. Die. Die. Die. Her back story is done.

Carl: Possible. Peripheral character we haven’t seen in a while. Could show up just in time to die.

Mikhail: Possible. He might have come back to life, only to die again. I love the irony.

Desmond: No chance. His visions are very important right now. His backstory with Penny needs some kind of closure.

Rose and Bernard: No chance. Who? Aren’t they already dead? They’ve been missing for weeks. You can’t kill who you can’t see.

Hurley: No chance. I’ve read interviews where the creators/producers of the show have said Hurley is in it for the long haul. We still need to see how Hurley collapsed the deck that lead to his institutionalization. Maybe we will see the Libby connection in more detail in future episodes. Besides, the show can’t kill off its comic relief. He is around for the whole series.

Sayid: No chance. However, we have the unresolved story of Nadia, so I think he will be around next year. Besides, he is the only person with common sense on the whole island.

Locke: No chance. He is such a complicated character, they can’t kill him off. He is the true wildcard on the show. Unpredictable. But he is on the island’s wavelength. He is around for the whole series.

Sun: No chance. They need to keep her around for next year, to see if she can give birth and live. But her back story is done.

Rousseau: No chance. She is a mysterious character that needs a flashback at some point. Unresolved story with Alex.

Alex: No chance. Unresolved story with Rousseau, and her real relationship with Ben.

Tom: No chance. He is the comic relief of the Others.

Richard Alpert: No chance. He is possibly subverting Ben’s leadership, and the island may want him around.

Michael and Walt: No chance. We need a flashback of what happened to them once they left on the boat.

Vincent: No chance. He is will continue to pop up every couple of episodes for a purpose. Or is the smoke monster.

The Smoke Monster: No chance. Simply because the monster would have the best flashback possible of everybody left

There is a British paper reporting Charlie gets killed off at the end of this season...may not be true though.

I spend half an hour typing that out with any notes, fockhole.

During Sawyer's flashback in prison, it was revealed he was aware of her and set aside a bank account for his daughter. That situation seems resolved.

I think Sawyer's story is pretty much done.

Still have the mother floating around and now a child.

I don't think the island will care that Cooper died. Remember how Boone was "a sacrafice the island demanded"

Also, I think Jack is a good guy along with Juliet. They've been setting up a conflict between Jack and Locke from the beginning. I guess that doesn't mean Jack has to be good and Locke bad, but they are probably going to end up on different teams.

I wonder if Ben's dad was the skeleton in the truck with all the beer. :o

I thought Ben's flashbacks would be better; maybe they'll pick up.

Also, I'm starting to hate Jack a lot. When he just asked where they got the tape, I actually yelled out loud "up your ass, dooshbag!" :o

I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season. Very interesting. Very informative. Also, in a world where most people complain about re-runs, blah blah blah, I must give props to Lost for keeping their word and running 17 consecutive shows. You don't see that very often.

Well, they kind of had to. With ABC setting that long break during the winter, they had to run new episodes every week or the season finale wouldn't be during the sweeps period.

Geez, where to begin...

Initial thoughts throughout tonight's episode....

Ben lied about being on the island all of his life, which he confirmed later. A natural born lying weasel.

Locke continues to usurp Ben's powers, has father killed, swipes his tape recorder, Ben is losing control.

In the last couple of days on the island, Mikhail get his ass kicked by Sayid and Kate, gets his home blown up, electrocuted by the pylons, gets his ass kicked by Jin, gets clobbered by Locke...ya think he has had better weeks?

Alex giving a gun to Locke is yet another example of Ben losing control.

Roger the Workman, Ben's dad, sure loves his beer.

Ben has visions on the island, like Jack, Hurley, Shannon, Kate, etc. The smoke monster in disguise?

Wow. Some serious "Love me, daddy" issues for Ben.

*****Ash on the ground that Ben picked up and rubbed. This is extremely significant. I knew some weird stuff was about to happen. This is an object of the occult. A circle of salt/ash/something else effectively traps something supernatural inside of a circle, or keeps something supernatural outside of a circle. Much like the pylons and the smoke monster. So that grey like substance on the ground confines Jacob to inside of that circle of ashy like stuff.

Ben's mom says to be patient. The man in jungle tells Ben to be patient. Another reference to space and time?

Either Jacob is invisible, a ghost/spirit, the smoke monster being invisible, or Ben has a split personality and is telekinectic. No matter what the options, it's a mind fock.

Ben killed off his people. Cold hearted, liar, and a conniving weasel. Nice.

Locke is shot. First of all, he is not dead at the moment, and may yet live, ala Mikhail. Maybe. Ben continues to lose control. It's all unraveling. The weird part is that Ben needed to know what Jacob said to Ben..."Help Me". But if Jacob supposedly spoke to Ben when they entered the building, how did Ben not hear what Jacob told Ben. Selective messages for different people? Ben only pretended that Jacob spoke to him? No clear answers.

Being that Richard helped overthrow the Dharma Initiative with Ben, Richard may have been working to help Locke, with the folder last week, to otherthrow Ben. Richard is a wildcard.

****Since Dharman is dead on the island, yet continue to drop supplies, it seems like the island natives kept up appearances in the hatches so show Dharma elsewhere in the world that business as usual was happening. But when the Swan hatch blew up, Dharma elsewhere knew something was very wrong. Therefore, Naomi is from Dharma, sent to investigate what is wrong on the island. Further, Naomi may or may not be associated with Penny, but that could lead to Penny and/or Charles Widmore as key figures in the Dharma Initiative. So this means Dharma will invade, probably in the aftermath of next week's war. But Dharma may assume that the Others AND the Losties killed off the Dharma people, so that instead of a rescue mission, Dharma arrives at the island to exact revenge. This seems like the direction of Season 4.

I'll add more tomorrow.

Well, they kind of had to. With ABC setting that long break during the winter, they had to run new episodes every week or the season finale wouldn't be during the sweeps period.

That was the plan. People bitched about reruns so the only way to do it was run all 23 eps at once, but then people bitched they wouldn't have lost for like 7-8 months so they did the mini season.

I liked the way they did it.

Just as I thought Locke will try to take over the others.

Jill is still a rat.

Another theory of mine is Penny is connected to Darma. Maybe her dad is a high level executive

Did anyone else notice Jacob sitting in the chair just for a split second.

Could Jacob be a demon? Has ben hid the fact that Jacob needs a new body which is why they steal the children? Just a thought.

Jacob is the smoke monster.

That is what i was thinking.

A lot of answers, but, i was a bit disappointed. It was the whole Jacob thing, WTF and some. I am sure it will be explained what it is, but, for now, it's kinda rediculous IMO. I mean, a ghost??? I mean, it is pretty cool and really freaky but i was expecting something else a little more logical.

Also, killing Locke i don't like if he does die. Either Ben did that to really see if he is special and "Jacob" will come and help him. More likely though, the fact that he heard Jacob means he really is special and was now a huge threat to Ben, we see how incredible cold bloodedly evil Ben is, this is something that he could easily do.

I agree with that they are now just pretending to be Dharma so Dharma keeps sending them supplies and thinks the island is statis quo. One question i have is are their still hostiles on the island??? We heard them whispering before and see them in their raggedy cloths.

Naomi already said she was sent by Penny, she had a picture of Desmond, so, i seriously doubt she is part of Dharma.

Now we see Ben isn't a good guy, he is a very, very bad guy and the others are very bad. They deffinently aren't trying to help the losties. The last couple episodes, with the way the season is going, should be the best ever.

If you did watch for a while, but stopped watching because of whatever reason, you really need to get the DVD and watch this season. The past couple months of episodes have been really good. I think the second half of this season has been the best in the series, really just awesome....

 That would be about the scariest, freakiest thing ever...but i would like that a lot :o BTw, i will watch it again probably during the weekend, i will have to check and see if he sat in that chair. I was in absolute awe during that whole scene, again, for now i don't really like it, but, i am sure there is soem sort of crazy thing tied to it.

Also, we seen the children alive and well, and they haven't tried to steal Aaron...yet, that may be something they try when they raid the beach. Maybe it wants to be in Lockes body, or maybe it already kinda is since now he can walk.

Also, what philly said about the ash is right. I know they say to prevent evil spirits/demons from entering your body, you would put a circle of salt around you, also to keep them at bay from your house or whatever.

Also, "good ghost" usually aren't very powerful and usually can't be all violent like that. Jacob is, which is probably the best guess right now, a demon who rules over the island and only special people can talk to him, like Ben and Locke. Wait, does that mean Locke is really evil??? I mean, he couldn't kill the man who focked him over repeatly, but, on the other hand he killed the russian dude without even thinking about it(though, he probably didn't know that would happen). I say that because we know Ben is evil, maybe Jacob is really Ben's demon....

I think right now that Jacob is the smoke demon - becasue the demon looks like ash - maybe when he crosses the line he takes that form.

When they are trying to get a child a BORN and consumated on the Island - This almost has to be becasue Jacob can only possess a body that is born on the Island and consumated. Which would explain the " help me " call. Also would explain why he works for Jacob - getting a child on Island is his job ! !

ETA

LOcke is NOT going to die -- if he was he woulda in this episode.

Locke is the main character pretty much and definitley most interesting.

Only way they kill locke off is if he want to do another show and quits.

MO is that Locke will take this and turn it into a way to take over the others as they seem to already prefer him anyway to ben ! !

Then Locke will become the "bad Guy " and work for Jacob

:first: Yeah....because logic comes into play so often on this island. What with the black smoke monster, polar bears, whispering others, tons of different hatch's, the giant magnet that pulled them in, the pit of dead bodies, and the fact that they are all dead to the outside world and their bodies were found all seems very logical to me. But, throw in a little invisibility and now it's illogical.
