Best Country Songs

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm new to country music and would like to expand my knowledge/enjoyment of the genre.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I linked a few songs that I very much like.

Wow....sadly those don't really qualify as country. Try some thing like this, it might be your speed.

You looking for 'classic' country, or current hits? Anyway, back when I was in Madrid in the Air Force, I was forced to listen Armed Forced Radio every Sunday while at work. And every Sunday it was the top 40 country countdown. This was late 80s, early 90s timeframe. The big boys back then were...

Randy Travis - his 'Always and Forever album had 4 number 1 hits on it

Clint Black - his 'Killin' Time' album had 4 huge hits..with 3 hitting number 1

Tim McGraw - his 'Not a Moment Too Soon' album had at least 5 hits, a couple of which hit number 1

Kenny Chesney - I have always loved this song

For some recent stuff that I like (which is hard to find because it's so watered down with any chump that can carry a tune)....

Jadon Aldean and Kelly Clarkson

I'm not a true country fan, just some songs I liked.

My wife came back to me, my truck started working, and my dog came back to life.

Oh, sorry, that's country songs played backward. :ninja:

Jason Aldean has some good stuff (relentless, my kinda party, the truth). Gary Allan as well (get off on the pain, life aint always beautiful). toby Keith connsitently puts out quality music. Kenny Chesney mixes it up with some beach-party stuff as well as some ballads. His newest album (Hemingway's whiskey) gives some great samples of both.

You guys should see Crazy Heart. Many musicians have lived the main character's life.

I like it...kind of a mood song but not bad. Bruce Springsteen clone?

By no means his best song. In general,he rocks it more, sometimes with a slide guitar  .

"Bread and Water" in my original thread is great song. There are more.

I am taking the kids to see him in a small venue. Can't friggin wait. Bumped the thread and updated link in orginal post.

I'd call him a Texas Jack Johnson, totally even in my book with the nod to Bingham, mostly do to home court, but have the kindred spirit of Jack Johnson and feel awesome about that. He actually was a rodeo dude, traveling around competing. Playing guitar during roadtrips and downtime.

I don't like any of the newer country.

Some of the older stuff is just fine with me.

Word.

Most of what is good in newer country is not on the radio or CMT.

But what is good these days is honoring the old school.

Anything by Garth Brooks. No, really, the guy was a damn machine in the 90s. IMO, by FAR the best country solo artist ever, with respect with Johnny Cash.

Check out Chesney's 3-D tour. Ridiculous what the guy puts into a show. Out sold any concert performer ever.
