Headsetgate, Pats caught cheating yet again.

Recommended Posts

Tomlin basically implied it as he said every time they are in NE they have headset frequency problems. Bill then tried to cover it up and say they also had problems but cmon now, we all know that's not true. Gonna be funny watching this get blown out of proportion in the media. Lot of smoke yet there's no fire? Please.

@robinlundberg

Wait, Steelers had Pats radio in their headsets? That's a I'm not even mad, I'm impressed situation if New England pulled something tonight.

that must be why they called the trick pass play while they were knifing right thru NEs defense.

or maybe it was why they had no concept of clock management?

It's entertaining watching losers turn into crying losers.

It didn't sound to me like Tomlin was accusing them of cheating. He sounded frustrated that an NFL stadium can constantly have trouble with communications. It's 1990's technology and they can't seem to figure it out in Foxboro., Maybe they can take the money they're saving by firing The Deflator and hire a tech guy that can figure out basic communication technology.

This reminds me of the Brady Bunch episode (no pun intended) where bobby has a new hero in Jesse James. The patriots have been a shady organization and I find it hilarious.

Breaking junto locker rooms and hotels and whatnot?

It was reported that the issue was the Steelers hearing the Patriots signals, not the Patriots hearing the Steelers......that does not sound like the typical Patriot-type of cheating. Now, it could very well be that the Patriots efforts to cheat backfired on them this time and instead of stealing the signal for themselves they reversed the situation, I could see that....

That was my take too.

Except for the fact that the NFL controls the headsets, this would be a great add to the Patriot cheating lore.

Controlling a headset has nothing to do with what the headset receives. It's called radio jamming and it is what the U.S. did to Cuban radio for 50 years. It's easy.

Shutting off the headsets and preventing Haley from calling another deep sideline route on 3rd and 3 when they were getting 6 yards a carry is the biggest favor anyone could have done them.

The Steelers were hearing the Pat's national broadcast, not the Patriot's signals. Same old bullsh!t with that team and that stadium.

“We were listening to the Patriots radio broadcast for the majority of the first half. On our headsets.”

Scott Zolak musta's whispered in Tomlin's ear, "Mike... throw the double pass - throw the double pass"... and Mike realized that 16yds per play wasn't good enough so he went with the double pass.

Headsets...

Let me tell you why PIT lost last night:

1. coaching - terrible play calling, terrible clock management

2. kicking - failure or execution

3. smarts/awareness - stand in bounds when you're wide open in the end zone, don't jump off sides on the goal line when the defensive line shifts (legally)

but you keep focusing on headsets - and when you play NE again, you will lose again.

They were not hearing the Patriots signals. They were hearing the radio broadcast of the game from the Patriots announcers.

From what I have read, headset problems are nothing new. The Jets had headset problems in Pittsburgh in the 2011 championship game but since it was not the Patriots, a big deal was not made out of it.

After the Steelers beat the Jets in the AFC Championship Game in January of 2011, the Jets said they were having problems communicating at Heinz Field. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez said the problems were something he hadn’t previously encountered.

“It never really happened for that long of a time,” Sanchez said. “We had to use a walkie-talkie at one point and [offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer] was just yelling calls in at one point. It was just another challenge, and we almost overcame it.”

Sanchez said the headsets in Pittsburgh failed repeatedly.

“The problem was the headset kept going out multiple times during the game,” Sanchez said, “so I had to run over and get a couple calls, piece together some calls on the headset that came in broken up. It was one of those things we were fighting through. I was proud of our guys for trying to piece it together.”

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/09/11/headset-issues-have-arisen-in-pittsburgh-too/

The NFL controls the headset communications:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Don’t blame the New England Patriots for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ headset issues during Thursday night’s opener, the NFL says.

League spokesman Michael Signora said in a statement after the game it was a “stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather” that caused the interference that left Steelers coach Mike Tomlin seething after the Patriots’ 28-21 win.

“The coaches’ communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both clubs use on game day,” Signora’s statement said. “Once the power issue was addressed, the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues.”

I'm pretty disappointed in Tomlin. Never considered him a cvnt, even when he blatantly cheated on national TV by tripping that return guy. These things happen.

But he was sure a sore loser after last night's game. Even his own players were saying it was nothing and they just have to play better. And be COACHED better too, which is what Tomlin's whiny ass would prefer not to talk about. Man up

The Steelers never lose, it is always the refs/weather/headsets/etc. fault...

thank you posty.

and here we go again.. Steelers fans scratching their heads, thinking, "NE wasn't better than us last night"... and they're right - NE was't better (athletically)... but NE was prepared, well coached, disciplined... they stood in-bounds to catch the ball, they used all 11 players to help on defense, and on... and on... and on...

PIT wasn't a worse team last night. They were a more unprepared team last night. Steelers fans should be angry at their coach, receivers, and linemen for making dumb mental mistakes that cost them the game... Steelers fans should be mad at their kicker who can't kick and their GM for signing that kicker.

Some day, you'll wake up and realize it's not "luck"... it's preparation... it's fundamentals that so frequently tips the scales for NE in a league that is built for parity.

Or maybe they the Steelers had trouble getting the right personnel out there which left him wide open. In the first half they also played with only 10 Defensive players on a goal line play too in the redzone. I just chalked it up to being week 1 and being rusty, but it seems there was some lack of communication as well.

Was this on purpose aka cheating? I don't think so. No.

Does this happen occaisionally at other stadiums? I think so, every once in a while.

Does this seem to happen more often at Foxboro than other stadiums? Seems so.

So they need to come into the 21st Centruy and fix it. Thanks Mr.Kraft. Maybe sell one of your pink ties and fix the communication system at your multi billion dollar staduim. mmmmkay? Thanks.

I just read the presser where he mentioned the headsets. You are totally misrepresenting what he said. Tomlin didn't blame the loss on the headsets, he spoke about other things. He didn't call the Patriots "cheaters". He mentioned how frustrating it was that the headsets were not working for pretty much the whole first half. And that it's not the first time this has happened. That is was frustrating to not be able to communicate like the team should.

I see nothing wrong with it. If I was a coach and the headset was all jacked up and not working it would be really frustrating. Nothing wrong with mentioning it, things don't get fixed until people bring it up.

Now of course the media and fans will spin it to "cheating", because of the Patriots history, but that's on the media and fans. Mike Tomlin didn't do anything wrong. Your angst is in the wrong place.

LOLOL So an NFL head coach isn't supposed to be pissed that he couldn't communicate with his coaching staff the entire first half? He made plenty of references to his team's execution. He didn't blame the loss on the headsets, but he has a right to be pissed about it.

Patriot fans are so smug and arrogant that they think you aren't allowed to criticize anything even close to the Patriots. Worms has become such a focking lady since Deflategate. I guarantee he's wearing a skirt. Even on casual Friday.

Steelers are also complaining about defensive line shifting...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/09/11/headsets-werent-all-the-steelers-were-complaining-about-post-game/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs

It wasn’t just the headsets the Steelers had a problem with last night.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, the Steelers were also angry about the Patriots’ tactic of shifting their defensive line en masse to try to draw a penalty — which worked during a disastrous goal-line sequence for Pittsburgh.

On third-and-goal from the Patriots’ 1-yard line, Steelers left tackle Kelvin Beachum was flagged for a false start after the shift, which quarterback Ben Roethlisberger immediately began to protest,

“I thought that there was a rule against that,” Roethlisberger said. “Maybe there’s not. Maybe it’s just an unwritten rule. . . . We saw it on film, that the Patriots do that. They shift and slide and do stuff on the goal line, knowing that it’s an itchy trigger finger-type down there.”

It’s a legal move so long as the Patriots don’t cross the line of scrimmage, which they didn’t appear to in this instance.

“They time it up in the cadence,” Steelers left guard Ramon Foster said. “Yeah, that’s one of the things they do. Welcome to Foxborough. . . .

“I think it’s more heightened because it’s [the Patriots] and it looks like – whatever the case may be. They’re a team that likes to take advantage of those type of situations, and we can’t give that to them.”

Foster nailed this one. As long as they’re not in the neutral zone, and they’re not calling out cadence themselves, it’s within the letter of the law. And when they’re in goal-line situations, it’s also a good bet for the Patriots, since a penalty against them would cost inches, while one against the offense costs 5 yards. It’s worth pushing the envelope there.

In many ways, it’s like their formation games against the Ravens in the playoffs last year, as their knowledge of the rules is apparently greater than their opponents’, giving them an advantage. In short, they know the rule book better than you do, so don’t complain.

A. I said, in my post that this wasn't cheating. It appears more like the Patriots need to fix the issue. Not that it was intentional.

B. I don't understand the point of your last sentence. The Falcons pumped in noise, were caught and the league fined them. What's the issue?

Friday morning, a report on Steelers.com, the team's official website, said that whenever an NFL representative was on the Patriots' sideline, the Steelers' headsets cleared, but when the representative walked way, the game broadcast returned. ESPN has not been able to independently confirm that report, which was unattributed.

.....

Because it was not a complete system failure, New England's coaches were not required to shut down their headsets during the repairs. However, the Patriots said they experienced issues as well.

I was watching this story and how it was covered for comedy reasons.

Last night after the game, other websites all mentioned that the NFL controls the headsets. ESPN left that part out of there story until this morning. Also, ESPN included a paragraph about the OTL report on the Patriots cheating as part of the headset story last night, yet the 3-4 other websites I went to didn't mention it. :music_guitarred:

Or maybe in the many post game interviews, pressers etc where journalists ask a thousand questions players mention things like this all the time. BUT now the reporters grab it and make it news....since its the Patriots.

The Steelers were such a bad team last night that the Pat's did not need to cheat, but not needed to cheat has never stopped them from doing so before. I doubt that the Patriots had a role in issues with the Steelers head sets, but that being said, if we later discovered that they did....would anyone really be surprised? Cheating is like some kind of addiction with the pat's.
