Favorite Album. Beginning to End Greatness.

Recommended Posts

An Iron Maiden album.

Assume you meant "any"

First 5 were great and would qualify as a Fav. Somewhere in Time was on the bubble for me and downhill after that. Maybe they were good in their own way but was lost on me.

Piece Of Mind

Number of the Beast

Powerslave

Iron Maiden

Killers

Agreed. Somewhere in Time has two of my favorite Maiden songs, Wasted years and Alexander The Great. I also like Heaven Can Wait a lot.

I like the order you put them in too, probably the same for me all the way around on your post.

Maiden has to be one of the best history story telling bands of all time.

(True or fantasy/mythological)

Alexander the Great

Flight of Icarus

Ryme of the Ancient Mariner

There IS more.

Actually, now that I think on it for a few moments, I am pretty sure Fear of the Dark was the last album of theirs' I bought. I just did not like enough of their new stuff that made me want to go out and buy another of their albums.

Steve Harris is a focking GENIUS and the brains behind the band.

The one thing I've learned reading these music threads is the Geeks are getting old. We are some old white dudes.

Pretty soon there will be threads titled:

"Do you take Fiber Supplements?"

"Don't you hate when your snotty grandkids come to visit?"

any of you fools have a nice record player? I'm looking forward to the day, likely when my kids are older and moved on to have a nice stereo with vinyl player down in the basement, so I can actually just throw on an album and enjoy

Right. The "Oldies" station was playing U2 the other day. I'm thinking, why are they playing this. This isn't old.

I haven't listened to or purchased an entire album in decades. I'm a poster boy for record industry ills.

Before iTunes was invented, I had these at the top of my list:

Boston

Toys In the Attic

Thriller

Purple Rain

Van Halen

Back in Black

Revolver

Pronounced Leh-nerd skin-nerd

What's Going On

Rumours

The Joshua Tree

Appetite For Destruction

The Stranger

London Calling

Ramones

Movie was pretty awesome too.

being 12, 13 and seeing prince lay the pipe to Apollonia and give her a back hand to the face for talking to Morris.

Good stuff.

Nirvana Unplugged was great.

Metallica Master of Puppets and And Justice For All are both in the top for me...not a bad song on either of them.

GnR Appetite is close to that...but at least 3 songs I could leave off of that album...maybe 4.

Michael Jackson HIStory: Past, Present, and Future Part 1...disc one...some great song (and a few to throw out...but overall, very listenable)

there are a lot of albums I could throw on and just play over and over

Some newer ones that come to mind:

Alt-J - This is All Yours

Jack White - Lazaretto

The Black Keys - El Camino

The Avett Brothers - The Carpenter

Beck - Morning Phase

That said, if anyone has suggestions of new music I should be checking out based on these I've listed, let me know

Is it me, or are older generations more resistant to continuing to explore new music? I love many of the historic albums some of you "more seasoned" geeks are referencing, but how much do you seek out new music you enjoy?

Constantly. But albums don't really exist anymore.

Yes they do. I'm part of an org that does a folk festival and our headliner had vinyl available for two albums which also came with a cd. I'm guessing they would have sent digital file as well

:dunno:

Out of the last 20 years I've maybe heard 20 songs that have something new to offer that hasn't already been done better by one of the hundreds of 70's bands that I grew up with.

I'm still exploring so much that I missed from the greatest era of rock.

I'm aware they still exist.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say, that with the exception of certain bands that are on my "watchlist", that's not really how I discover my music anymore.
