NFL TV Ratings Down Sharply

comparing NFL playoffs to NFL regular season is apples to oranges.

it's just not the same product and doesn't generate the same level of interest.

Sure...but it was the highest ever for a divisional playoff game.

I'm comparing it to other playoff games.

Those two teams certainly helped with their fan bases.

Those Saturday games blew...showing that poor games rate like crap. Hardly a shock. I'd say many times out if at all thinking NEwould run away with it. And not sure the Falcons have much of a fan base to draw from

Can't just say you were wrong.

Ryan I am surprised you feel this way considering the field you work in. While cable viewership is down, I am willing to bet that the NFL brand has been seen by more eyes more often this year than any year prior.

Regular Season games - they don't generate the same level of interest as playoffs.

So seeing good ratings for playoffs doesn't mean that the regular season issues are fixed.

Can they accurately count viewers with the myriad of viewing options? Don't know.

And I'm sure the NFL brand has more exposure than ever bc of how easily tech connects them everywhere.

But that's their brand - and the brand/culture is bigger than ever... more jerseys, pink hats, video games, than ever. Still doesn't mean people are actually watching the reg. Season games... maybe they're consuming everything else but the actual games... kinda like the group at the ballpark with hats, foam fingers, hot dogs and jerseys but they have no idea what the score is nevermind the infield fly rule.

RP being a trolling doesn't pay again and still can't let go his obsession.

Psst...ratings were barely down from last year and it was the 4th highest rated TV show of all time.

Lower ratings than the years prior is a good sign.

Worst, most boring, regular season and playoffs in recent memory. One of the best (craziest) Super Bowls ever.

Super Bowl ratings down for the third year in a row!

Before long only the losers will be watching the farce that is known as the NFL. Imagine, a competitive sport that limits the amount of time you can practice.

Couldn't agree more with the limited practice point. The players bargained it in as one of their major accomplishments in the last CBA. What a joke. They wanted less time to make them good at what they do. Ya know, the whole reason why we watch professional athletes in the first place. The owners were probably like Sooo you will agree to this thing if we make you practice less? We don't have to give more money or lessen the powers of Goodell? Uhh... ok sure...

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announces less commercials during games

Together with our broadcast partners, we will be working to meaningfully reduce down time and the frequency of commercial breaks in our game, announced NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday via Twitter. We will also be giving our broadcast partners increased flexibility to avoid untimely breaks in the action. For example, we know how annoying it is when we come back from a commercial break, kick off, and then cut to a commercial again. I hate that too. Our goal is to eliminate it.

The goal, according to Goodell, is to provide more focus of the game, less on unwanted distractions.

We also know that you feel there are too many elements in the broadcast that arent relevant to the play on the field, he added. With our partners, we will be looking to instead focus on content that is most complementary and compelling to you whether that is analysis, highlights or stories about our players.

All of these changes are meant to give you more of what you want: a competitive game with fewer interruptions and distractions from the action, he added.

That turd Goodall also took a pay cut. Writings on the wall. He's done before the next CBA agreement.

Yeah but he works for the owners, so he is basically the voice of the owners, only he gets paid to take the brunt of criticism. Will the next guy be just like him?

He does. But he's not liked and has lost much respect from his bosses. Tabligue was well respected during his tenure by all but Al Davis. This fawking piece Of excremental doosh has no business running a fawking Burger King restaurant. His actions hurt the shield and the owners are seeing the effects of his actions. He's a yes man that has run it's time.

I hope he dies in a puddle of aids infection that devours his soul in kitty littered boxes that Charlie Sheen finds acceptable for trash day.

Anthem protests led poll of reasons viewers tuned out

National anthem protests were the top reason that NFL fans watched fewer games last season, according to a new survey released by J.D. Power.

The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason.

Dallas and NE viewers were as heavy and strong as ever. In fact, Dallas had some of the most watched games the league has seen in years.... Maybe the Kaep news didn't air in the cities and towns their fans lived.

26%. So even in a small poll...a large majority didn't give a rats ass.

And it's 26% of those who watched fewer games, not 26% of everyone.

NFL Network's Mike Silver reports the Ravens have heard from "numerous fans" about the possibility of signing free agent Colin Kaepernick, and "many" of them are "staunchly opposed" to a Kaepernick signing.

Kaepernick's 2016 decision to kneel during pregame national anthems has been extremely polarizing among fan bases. Kaepernick was protesting police brutality, but many have interpreted Kaepernick's kneeling as a slap in the face to our country. Those fans spoke out to Giants owner John Mara, and it appears they are now contacting Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti as well.

Former National Football League player Burgess Owens said he remembers the NFL being known for its patriotism and character, but now its brand is "anti-Americanism and thuggery."

The fan base that was okay with coke heads, women beaters and murders is all of the sudden up in arms over Anthem kneelers.

If the Ravens had won their Division, made it to the AFC Championship and were poised to be even better this year - nobody would give a shiit if Kaep were on the team or not.. The team would be making bank off record season ticket sales and renewals.

Jerry Jones is sticking his nose into the potential suspension of Zeke

anyone surprised there?

Goodell won't take part in the decision.

Good thing he cares so much about domestic abuse.

Fraud.

Jerry has basically seen the presentations both Zeke and the League have.. Wouldn't call that poking in for the sake of influence - he has none here.

“In fact, Goodell has distanced himself so much from this case that he hasn’t been present for any of the disciplinary hearings involving Elliott, according to the source,” reported Dom Cosentino in a story that published just after 5 p.m. on Friday.

Shortly after the story went live, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy informed Deadspin that the league’s personal conduct policy “allows for the commissioner to absent himself from the disciplinary process if he so chooses.”

Maybe the fallout form the Brady ordeal gave him a new perspective - to distance himself. :dunno:

Brady... Ray Rice... Greg Hardy, Peyton Manning, New Orleans, etc., etc. etc. - Roger's been a Royal fock up in all of these "discipline" cases - maybe he's finally stepping back from it a bit.

The smartest thing Goodell could do is outsource player discipline to an independent third party.

Agreed.. He just needs to STFU, kiss some babies and cash his $20m checks... The owners do love him though - he's prolly here for a while.
