Brad GLuckman 519 Posted December 26, 2017 I'll probably drink some beer, probably Killian's Irish Red. I also have a few left over from a Sam Adams winter sampler pack. My wife has been really into champagne for the last year or so she'll probably go with that. This is the first year that my wife and I have been together (I think 9 years) that we aren't going out for at least a New Year's Dinner.
jerryskids 7,036 Posted December 26, 2017 We are trying to get out of our red wine rut. On our recent cruise my wife got into a "Kir Royale" which is fancy for champagne with a splash of creme de cassis. We recently bought the cassis so I imagine we'll toast with those. Might pick up some sweet vermouth and bitters to make manhattans, which are my new favorite non-wine drink. Wife also picked up some lemon-infused olives at our local olive mill; got vodka so with some dry vermouth I might make a (slightly dirty) martini. Actually I'll probably pick one of those two, that is starting to sound like a lot of different booze. And probably some red wine.

Brad GLuckman 519 Posted December 26, 2017 Phones have the internet these days... This. I used to think it was a bit pathetic that people posted here on weekends. Now, the Internet is around us always, on our phones and tablets. Not to mention, I'm older now. I have kids, so I'm not out on weekends as much. There are a bunch of sites I frequent while hanging out and watching Netflix or whatever. This is one of them.

jerryskids 7,036 Posted December 27, 2017 Nice. I am considering driving over to Grand Canyon and doing some sort of r2r2r over 2-3 days. Or maybe just a r2phantomranch2r. Starting off the new year retracing one of my favorite trips, surrounded by some of nature's best, would set a good tone for the year, for me. Are you from SoCal? Also don't you need to reserve those kinds of trips?
penultimatestraw 473 Posted December 27, 2017 Are you from SoCal? Also don't you need to reserve those kinds of trips? You need reservations to raft the Colorado River through the canyon. Anyone can hike from rim to rim, though if it takes more than a day you need lodging or camping permits, both of which are limited.

Djgb13 2,339 Posted December 27, 2017 Bad thing about not living in SA anymore: used to be able to stay home with my wife and watch all the fireworks across the entire city from our house. Was really nice cause we didnt have to pay for them, fight the traffic, or deal with drunken idiots. Just stay comfortable at home, drinking our own drinks, and watch all the fireworks across the city (we stayed on the outskirts of town to try and not deal with all the traffic). That was one of the best new years Ive had in a while. Just being able to relax at home and see hundreds of fireworks exploding all at once from across the entire city

wiffleball 4,797 Posted December 27, 2017 I have been to sushi den (very good ), do not remember izakaya. Really interesting. Due to worldwide shortages in rice. They're converting too much heartuer grain in millet. They are also expanding the definition of sushi to include such things as amphibians and insects.
