I’ve known a lot of people who have had COVID and recovered right away but today I lost a close friend because of it. Pretty crappy day.

I have no reason to doubt him.  I think the recovery rate is understated and death rate overblown... that said, people have died.  I wouldn't think he'd lie about this.  I mean, what purpose would that serve?

Why would I make that up? He became pretty sick from COVID which affected his lungs and then eventually led to him having a heart attack. He has always been a bigger guy and also had higher blood pressure. Obviously it wasn’t solely COVID that killed him but it is what led to him dying much earlier in his life. He was 53.

The point of my post was to have anecdotal evidence of someone dying from COVID.  Apparently no one is allowed to share any other experience other than saying they don’t know anyone affected.

I talked to his wife after work and she said he had COVID lungs and that the disease led to his heart attack. Like I said before though, his previous health didn’t help. He wouldn’t have died today if it wasn’t for COVID though.

Sorry to hear Hawkeye.

Does his wife have any idea how he got it? Seems like he was a high risk person. Curious if he was extra cautious and still got it.

He runs an appliance store. She works with him and she works part time at the hospital. I didn’t ask how he got it but it could’ve been any number of ways. He’s not the type that’s extra cautious about things like this. Also didn’t want to get tested right away. He’s stubborn.

No one has said it's a complete hoax that I know of and most people know it's not a death sentence, so you are on the side of 95% of America.  The reporting on it varies from thoroughly dishonest to vaguely honest. And Trump has been mostly honest, IMO.  Biden wearing masks everywhere and being 20' from anyone is probably a good move for him, as he is old and obviously scared.  I might be also, if I was that old and forced to be out and about.   Also, sorry about your friend.

Hospitals were never overrun by patients, IC units normally run between 70% and 80% capacity, etc. It is all political nothing more and the Democrats only hope of winning in November. We know who the high risk people are why are we punishing young healthy Americans?

My grandfather just died (2 weeks ago), he was 93.  Died in his sleep. He was in a nursing home for 2 months and said "I want to die at home"  they let him go home.

He did not have corona.  Shockingly, only one person asked me if he had it.

Thanks.  There's so much misinformation out there that I don't know what to believe.  I don't trust much of the data that's come from all the COVID testing.  All I know for sure is that it's real and it can be very serious for certain people while barely affecting others.  I think it's important we all go about our regular lives while still being cautious.

I think COVID is a real and legitimate threat, as a relatively new virus variant. The difference this time around seems to be a combination of poor Chinese response and a really easy transmission of it.

Hard to say if it was "overblown", but it is rather clear that the Democrats are using it for political gain, and that is repugnant.

The sad fact of the politicizing of COVID, is we know exactly what we are dealing with, but we cannot implement ages old, common sense proven practices.  Our parents used to send kids to get Chicken Pox, it wasn't serious for kids and they would get immunity.  Then came a Chicken Pox vaccine, and now people are afraid of it.  Herd immunity would have been perfect here and protected to ones that need it.  Now, the weak are still in danger.  The communities getting ravaged the worst are those who had no outbreaks early on.
