Long standing answer (no pun intended) would be The Stand but 11/23/63 blows it away.

I read The Running Man, could it be that one since it was made into a movie?  He only has about 5-6 books as Bachman...

Near the top of my list of SK stories.

Guess I'll go with  Eyes of the Dragon.

There was an eight episode miniseries on Hulu (I think) about 11/22/63 staring James Franco...

13/14 in the library...Librarian reccommends Stephen King...The Stand.

Mentions my hometown as they are traveling west...totally hooked.

Ive been a reader ever since.

Thank you Librarian!!!

I love everything from his Bangor Maine days.    When he moved to Castle Rock...seemed to weird out a little.

His Character development is the best...feels like you grew up with those kids/people.

Kudos to Long Walk...

Other great stories...

Word processor of the gods

The jaunt

Survivor type...gross...

The mist..

Gray matter..

I loved Salems lot...before vamps were sparkly

Firestarter...

Damn...all his stuff is good.

Dean Koontz is like Sk light...all action...no character dev...good stuff tho.

I could go on and on...

The dead zone but I really like the drawing of the 3. I stopped reading him after the last book of the dark tower series. It was a forced piece of crap that saw him insert himself into the story line.  It was soooo soooo stupid and I remember thinking man I read all of those books.....for that pos money grab?  fock him. Not for his politics (although he has been loony since being hit by the car) but because the guy he is now is a shell of who he was and he used up all his good ideas over the years while neglecting that story. When he did it was half asssed and vain.

Old Maid is right, there are way too many to pick just one.  The Stand has always been on my desert island list.  Have to agree with 11/22/63. That’s a great book.

And the Dark Tower series is one that I’ve read several times.  I don’t know which is my favorite, but the whole series is fantastic.

I don’t know if he’s used up all his best ideas.  I recently read The Institute and it was pretty good.

IT. After that, move over to Dean Koonz.

I’ve probably read 10-15 Dean Kootz books.  All due respect to him; he’s a good author but his books are (at least) one step down from King.

No, you’re thinking of The Talisman and Black House. with Peter Straub

The Green Mile

Desperation

Delores Claiborne

Duma Key

Oh hell, it’s hard to find a bad Stephen King book. Also check out Joe Hill (his son) has a few good ones, too.

I could make an argument for a bunch of his books and stories, but I read this one in college during summer break, in the late evenings on a couch with a dim light... I don't know how much was the story and how much was the mood of the location, but that was the scariest $#@! book I've ever read.

Also I've never even considered 11/22/63, but after all of the recommendations here I may read it.

This. He used to be better, but I remember trying to read his Frankenstein series a few years back, and thinking it was some basic level sh!t.

Yup, I read the first book in that series and decided that I was done with his stuff for awhile.  Like I said, i’ve probably read 15 or so of his books, and some of them are pretty good.

The first book I read by him was called Lightning, which I enjoyed and would recommend.

Speaking of Joe Hill, I just finished a book of his called The Fireman.  Pretty decent.

What made the Talisman interesting to me was them alternating chapters. One would put the characters into an impossible situation and the other would have to get them out of it. If I remember correctly, one chapter was just one sentence. Something like "Watch out!"

The Stand is still my favorite.

I usually love time travel stuff, and I really liked the premise of this book, but it really started dragging 3/4 of the way through.  I felt like I had to force myself to finish it.
