Went Free Bird because it’s a classic, but Simple Man is right up there.  I don’t like a ton of their songs, but the ones that I do like, I really love.

Not mentioned...Ballad of Curtis Loew

On the day old Curtis died
Nobody came to pray
Ol' preacher said some words
And they chunked him in the clay

Didn not know that. You learn something new everyday.  I’ll take Gimme Three Steps then. Gracias.

So I voted for Free Bird because it was fun to play on Rock Band.  But, I will once again show my ignorance because I'm ok with laughing at myself.  Sweet Home Alabama... I thought that was Kid Rock's song.  😧  I didn't realize he was actually referencing a real song.  Yes, I will give myself a time out.  P.s., I never heard of any of those other songs.

Here’s your homework assignment for tonight:

Listen to Sweet Home Alabama by Skyn

Follow that with Warewolves of London by Warren Zevon

Then listen to the Kid Rock song.  He calls it All Summer Long.   I call it Sweet Warewolves of Alabama.

Skynyrd is one of those examples of a band who has a bunch of great songs but I never listen to a full song when it comes on the radio die to years and years of overplay. I would say if picking one, it would be Tuesday's Gone.

I thought you were screwing with me at first when I read "Warren Zevon".  I was thinking, 'that's not a real person'.

Listened to all 3.  I like Sweet Home Alabama way more than the other 2... but like Kid Rock's song more than Warren Zevon's.  Liked all 3 though.

Edjr for the win with these picks.

Related note - if you haven't seen the documentary "If I leave here tomorrow" - do so.   It's not the best rock & roll documentary but it's pretty damn good.    Those boys were some Florida rednecks for sure.   They were also total lunatics.     Most of their songs were writen while they were in a beat up cabin off of a farm in FL where they would pick magic mushrooms out of cowsh!t outside and wash them down with whiskey.     There was some hard living going on before that plane crash.    The pics and descriptions of the aftermath of the crash were brutal.    Living thru a plane crash ain't for the faint of heart.    If the crash didn't F you up enough, the burning fuel will put a froth on top of it.

They’re all great.   Simple Man if I have to pick one.

That's what I picked.  Second would be Sweet Home Alabama.  Even though it is still played a lot it never gets old to me.  Freebird did get old back in the day, though.

I remember driving home the night of 9/11 and they played Tuesday's Gone. Now, every time I hear it, I think of that night.

Oh, this is awesome! Thank You!

I never liked Werewolves of London but, yes, I see what he did there.

I've long thought that the worst thing about Sweet Home Alabama was that it was about Alabama instead of Michigan but it's totally understandable ... Skynyrd being from there and all. they've not ties to and I never felt it right to grieve that they'd not written Sweet Home Michigan.

Anyway this is as close as we can get. Put Kid Rock in a Tiger cap, mention 1989 the year I graduated HS, singing about northern Michigan, and Sweet Home Alabama and it's as good as a knockoff as I could expect.

And he purged all his rap from this song.

I'll go listen to that again. This is so awesome. This addition is going into the rotation in a big way.

Eh... after Neil Young criticized the south with "Southern Man" a bunch of guys who grew up down south wrote a cool song about the place, one of the best songs ever recorded and way better than Young's song, in which they told Neil to go fock himself.

I'f that's not it... no....

Good stuff.  I like to play all 3 songs in order at jam sessions.

We did it at a block party a few years ago and the whole neighborhood was up and dancing 30 seconds into the Kid Rock song.

Yup, they had beef with Neil Young. And they didn’t even shoot it out. RIP  Biggie, Tupac and many others.
