If staying home was so necessary to save lives, then why stop at covid? Instill a national curfew besides for emergencies and work. Ban alcohol and tobacco. Ban any chemically laced food. For an idea to become a reality it typically starts with a divergent process (brainstorming) and ends with a convergent process (implementation).  They are very different skills and few people can do both extremely well, because to do so requires two types of personalities.  It is why so many entrepreneurs get replaced as CEOs once the company makes it.  Trump is a divergence guy; he thrives in the chaos of the chase, the deal.  Implementation is anathema to him.

I am an engineer.  I also used to do personality analyses, as many old timers here can attest to.  I’ve tried to explain to you the differences in personality, and your response confirms that you don’t get it.  Which is not unusual.  You are an implementer, there is nothing wrong with that, most people lean that way.

There are many literal geniuses working on new medicines all the time. Somebody that knows nothing about the field is not going to come up with a miracle cure on the spot.

2.  With that said.  Everyone HATES door to door salesman.  Not to mention the mere optics of saying as much. Horrible move.

ETA:  I always use the same excuse when a door to door salesman comes by.  No matter the time of day, I always say:  "Sorry, my family just sat down for dinner so I don't have time to talk, thank you and good luck".  My favorite is when I said that and it was a Saturday at 3:00pm and my boys were shooting basketball in the driveway.  He got it.
