Who here likes Eggplant 🍆?

Recommended Posts

Well hell, if you deep fry anything and cover it with enough cheese & sauce it's going to be at least acceptable. I think it's the grossest food ever. Or at least top 10

My wife uses Japanese eggplant in a few dishes, both American and Asian, and I like it enough.

I do not like eggplant parmigian. It is one of the worst Italian dishes.

I'll eat it every now and then.

I cut it in half then cut slits down it. Add oil salt and pepper then I add ham and cheese in the slits.

I'll bake it for 10-14 minutes. Taste pretty good.

Only breaded, fried, thin and with chicken cutlet on a sandwich. It’s disgusting otherwise.

It's one step above disgusting on the veggie scale, whatever that would be called.  Although...

I prefer the Japanese version, not sure why.  Also, slathered in cheese and sauce like a parmigiana is about the only other time I'll eat it. :dunno:

If I am ordering parmigiana, it’s going to be veal or chicken

edit:  I rarely order it out… will just make it at home

Yeah, might as well go with a real protein.

I don’t understand. You would prefer eggplant over veal or chicken?

I love eggplant parmigiana. It’s one of my favorite dishes. I also like Baingan Masala which is a delicious Indian eggplant dish.
I like okra too. A lot of people don’t like the texture but it’s quite tasty fried.

Homemade? I don’t do veal or chicken. I do eggplant. Mainly cause I can get a good veal parmigiana right down the road from my house. I’d prefer veal cause it’s my favorite. But I use my grandmas old recipe eggplant parmigiana

I am with Peenie on it being very good in certain Indian cooking.  Try the eggplant chaat at any good Indian place, and you will be happy that you did.

Most people don't know how to treat a large eggplant.  Unlike many fruits/veggies, an eggplant does not sweeten as it ripens...it remains bitter and firm fully ripened on the vine.  If you do not properly slice, salt and let it sweat, it is often bitter.  Drawing the liquid out of an eggplant also draws out the bitterness.   That is why Japanese is much easier to work with...Japanese eggplant has less bitterness and while it is improved with the salting technique, it is not necessarily bitter if you don't salt it.

Meh, it's alright. Not something I ever crave. And for the effort it takes to turn it into parmigiana or whatever, I just assume make the meat version of it.

Yup. I’d rather make escape goat parmigiana.
