Pickleball is so America it hurts.

Recommended Posts

Take a sport (tennis) that takes actual athleticism and takes effort and take away the effort and just stand around.

I dunno, I think it's great.  I see mostly older people playing it; hard for them to maneuver a full tennis court.  :dunno:

If I had to guess... a white elitist liberal state.  I could be wrong though.  But it just seems like this would be something that pretentious douche bags would invent because they're not capable of playing a real sport.  Somewhere like Vermont, or something.

I've played pretty much any and all sports. Grew up an athlete, yadda yadda, nobody cares. I enjoy pickleball because it can be played with couples. We enjoy it with our friends, yes, at a country club. It may be for well to do folks, I couldn't tell ya. My group of friends happen to be country club type people.

We're not gonna play a game of 21 with our wives, I can't stand couples golf. My own issue, way too competitive and hate lengthy rounds with terrible golfers. Pickleball serves it's purpose, work up a sweat and hang out. It's simple and anybody can play.

Not sure why the hate but, whatever, don't play.

Yup, it's harmless fun.    I enjoyed it when I've played, but I've only played a couple of times.   Like Reality said - it's probably best as a couples thing.

I can't wait to start playing it. Unlike wimpy ed, I ruined my body playing everything else as hard as I could for 55 years and can't really run anymore.

Not hating. Just saying it's American as you can get.

I’m actually surprised it’s popular among old people. It incorporates exactly what they can’t do. Bend over and make quick starts and stops on hard surfaces. I give it five more years maybe 10 max and it’s not going to be a thing.

It’s great for old people

Not many in their 70’s-80’s who can still hustle around a tennis court

Decent alternative to golf for the blue hairs

I was answering the question "where was it created".  Was I wrong?  :dunno:  I only took a guess.

ETA:  Dude, I absolutely nailed it!

I said "White elitist liberal state".  My guess was Vermont... it was Washington (state), so CHECK.

I said "pretentious douche bags".  It was a Republican Congressman (and a "successful businessman"), so CHECK.

I said "they're not capable of playing a real sport".  The guy invented it because he had bored children at home... they were trying to play ping pong or badminton, so CHECK.

Not my fault I was right.

Doesn't mean I'm hating on it.  If people want to play it, have at it.  Enjoy.  I hope you're having fun. :dunno:

I'm guessing that the older people playing are the "Country Club" type old people.  The ones who have a lot of money and play golf 5 days a week.  People who've probably been able to stay rather healthy and active because they've been financially well off their whole life.  While they most likely can't run up and down a tennis court or badminton field, they are agile enough to move a couple steps left and right and bend over a bit.

It's also the people who are in their 50's and 60's who still have "some left in the tank", but not enough for something more involved.

I don't play with anybody in their 50's and 60's. It's really picking up amongst people in their 30's and 40's though. May just be my area and where we vacation in Florida as well.

The reason most old people can't bend over and make quick starts and stops on hard surfaces, is because they don't bend over and make quick starts and stops on hard surfaces.

Use it or lose it.

I totally agree. It's absolutely perfect for the Olympics. Another thing for the Asians to dominate.

I don't want you to think I'm bashing anyone, I'm just answering questions that people are asking.  They asked about old people, so I specifically gave my response to address old people.  To be honest, I'd actually expect Pickleball to be popular with Millennials.  :dunno:

My ex-GF and her husband, both in great shape at 55-ish, are big pickleball players.  They both used to play tennis, I think they are exclusively pickleball now but not sure.

I would give it a go but my wife was never a tennis player; while athletic in non-ball sports, the only balls she plays with is getting teabagged by you geeks.  :dunno:

In this day and age of people sitting on their asses, watching tv, playing video games all damn day - I applaud anyone getting out and actually doing something physical.

Pickle ball? Cool, whatever - least they're out there exercising and not stuffing their faces with chips while they watch Netflix.
