FBI chief Christopher Wray says TikTok is a ‘national security concern’

Recommended Posts

FBI Director Christopher Wray warned lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Tuesday that allowing TikTok to continue operating in the United States could pose a threat to national security.

“We do have national security concerns, obviously from the FBI’s end, about TikTok,” Wray said during his testimony to Congress on Tuesday.

In 2020, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to begin the process of banning TikTok.

Upon taking office, President Biden replaced Trump’s executive order with his own. According to Klein, while Biden’s new order regulates data collection, "it does not address the other ways that China could weaponize the platform", like TikTok’s manipulation problem.

I am having a great time on Tik-Tok. I follow a bunch of guitar content and nature stuff too.

We get so tracked at every turn now. titans&bucs&bearsohmy! told us about the tracking his famiy's app does. When you walk thru the door at their nail salon, they know your name, where you shop, how much you spend and how long you stay.

I totally get that TikTok is basically the Chinese government but what, exactly, are they gonna do with info from the app? That’s where I’m having a hard time connecting the dots

Remember when Elvis was a national security concern?

Always....always.....always.....be suspicious of ANYTHING a government official says.  Never accept it on its face.

In this instance common sense would support his stance. But do not accept his positions automatically or thoroughly.

From the posted Fox News article in the OP

"TikTok automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users, including Internet and other network activity information such as location data and browsing and search histories.  This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information — potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage," the executive order stated.

Seems like a bit of a stretch. Couldn’t any of these apps be used for that?

Are you retarded?  In the U.S. we have laws regarding how companies can use information.  China doesn't have those protections.

You actually are retarded.   You really don't want to get in to a discussion about IT security with an IT guy.  I mean, I already school you on legal issues and that's not even my field of expertise.  I suggest you stand down.

You gotta move on from the Zimmerman thing. I understand you identified with him as a fellow fat loser with a tiny little d1ck and a law enforcement fetish, but it was a decade ago

I don't know why you keep bringing up Zimmerman.  I've schooled you on countless legal issues over the years.  Zimmerman is just one example.  Pretty funny you keep bringing that one up because a bunch of us made you look like an idiot in that particular thread.  But it's just one example.  But keep deflecting, 'tard.

I keep bringing it up because you’ve had a massive hard on for me ever since, which especially manifests itself when you’ve been drinking because you’re clearly a very angry drunk

Dude, I've been ragging on you forever.  Nothing to do with Zimmerman.  Because you're an idiot and clearly not an actual attorney.  And I haven't had a drop of alcohol in years so you're not a very good detective either.  Such a 'Tard.

Rremember that one kid from Parkland who posted a tweet that the US should ban Tik Tok, because of China?  Just a few months later, Trump says the same thing and the kid tweets out that Trump is scared of teenagers who might vote him out.

Why is TikTok's data collection different/worse than what Google, Facebook, and Twitter do? Those are sites are also known to be pretty dang invasive with private data but shouldn't the rule for one apply to all?

Because anything based in China is owned by the totalitarian regime.  That is what socialism and communism is....

And we are supposed to be the opposite of that.  They will, of course, weaponize anything they can from it.

The Chinese government sucks, indeed.

Notice there's also a less awful, but still totalitarian, regime much closer to home. Facebook, Google, and (formerly) Twitter are all the private branches of it that skirt around the government's 4th Amendment Constitutional laws that would otherwise prevent the government from doing so. Judicial branch leftists who hate the Constitution just ignore it and interpret it how they want to via the "living document" scam. Meanwhile Executive branch leftists lean on Big Tech to do their bidding for them. One hand washes the other. It's all group think and it's also all the same people rotating around anyway, you get a job in government, go work in Big Tech, go back to government, and then back to Big Tech.
