Markets are closed as well.

Thanks for keeping the place running everyone! I’ll have an 8am Bloody in your honor. Maybe a Bud Light at the turn 😀

My company is woke as hell, so we have it off.

When the pandemic started, we got an extra "Wellness Day" as a personal holiday. Now that Covid is over, I really thought they'd replace the Wellness Day with Juneteenth. Instead, it's in addition to... I'll take it:thumbsup:

Of course, I'll just be spending the day installing flooring in my house :(

We'll get there after they add another week to the season.  It will be great.

Yes, I have it off due to it being a federal holiday.

And it's a great holiday. It's the day a white man served papers to another white man officially ending slavery, being one of the first countries to do so. This after the bloodiest war in American history where well over 600k men died and 1 in 9 returned home permanently disabled.

I'm sure everyone will celebrate it accordingly.

Thank you ! It’s one of most important and meaningful holidays we have, imo.

And….

Slavery ended in the south a full 2 years earlier but many slave owners did not tell their slaves they were free. So this day is the day in Texas that slaves found out, 2 years later, that they were no longer slaves.

There are pockets of isolated communities where slavery-like conditions continued almost 100 years later. I had a neighbor who told me she escaped from her home where the blacks lived under this way. She said people were born and died there but there was no record of their existence and they had no freedom. She was from rural Mississippi.

I have to work, just like most holidays.  Still, I have no problem with this holiday.  If the GOP was smart, they'd tie it in to Lincoln and Republicans.

I think of all those brave men that fought and died and were crippled in the union army to end slavery.  We should do something for their descendants.  Pay them back maybe.

Nope. It's an important day in American History.  Should be reflected/celebrated in the same vein as Memorial Day/4th of July.
