Los Angeles now forces you to drink tap water at LAX

they wont even sell you a bottle of water now.  you have to bring an empty bottle and fill it with tap water.  LA water is TERRIBLE.  one thing i dont know is if they allowed boxed water.   boxed water is water that is sold in a paper carton.  its like a milk carton but filled with water.

If your airport routine features grabbing a bottle of water after passing through the TSA checkpoint, you may have to think again. Los Angeles International Airport has banned the sale of single-use plastic bottles in its facility, per a Facebook post.

The ban has followed a 2021 plan to gradually phase out the sale of water bottles in LAX and the Van Nuys Airport. It’s part of a larger, zero-waste initiative under Los Angeles World Airports’ Sustainability Action Plan.

The plastic water bottle ban at LAX currently includes vending machines and events at the airport. It does not include plastic water bottles served aboard aircraft or other single-use cartons, recyclable aluminum, or glass bottles.

You can’t (over like 4 oz or something).

The idea here is people bring a reusable bottle, they have installed water dispensers that you can fill at. Or they will sell water in containers other than plastic bottles.

Not a fan of this but if the stores are still selling clean water in glass or paper containers, I don't think its a big deal.

These water filling stations are showing up in lots of places. Seen them in many airports and have started using them with my own bottle (or pick up a bottle of water and use it for trip if I forgot). They do save a ton of plastic if used so to me is a pretty pragmatic way to cut down on some waste.

No. At LAX apparently you will soon have to drink water at a restaurant, out of a fountain, buy one in a glass bottle, or a cardboard box, or an aluminum bottle or bring your own and fill it after TSA.

I was just there last week and there was plastic bottles for sale everywhere so this must be coming down the pike.

On one hand I am very anti-plastic, so this is a positive step. On the other hand the first thing I do when I go through airport security is buy some water to bring with me. I do have a reusable container, but it is bulky and not as convenient.

Giving up convenience to help the environment is going to be a tall order for most americans. We use so much plastic all over the place because it is cheap and light.
