From what I've read that is what I believe.  It doesn't really matter though because it's just my opinion.  It's a federal holiday that few businesses actually observe.  It's not a big deal.

So did slavery. How come the English don’t get the blame for most of it? They had it for over 150 years when they were in charge. They started it here. We got rid of it completely in half that time. Fought a war over it.
