ESPN/ABC to broadcast 26 WNBA games for 2025 season…

ESPN/ABC will broadcast 26 WNBA games this season, including 10 for the Indiana Feverand nine for the defending champion New York Liberty and eight for the Las Vegas Aces. Thirteen of the games will be on ABC, including the All-Star Game on July 19 in Indianapolis.

ESPN/ABC will also air the entire postseason, which is expanded this year with a best-of-seven series for the WNBA Finals. It was previously a best-of-five series. The regular season is expanded to 44 games.

Overall, more than 175 games will be broadcast across multiple platforms during the regular season from May 16-Sept. 11, the league announced Thursday. Games will also air on ION, Amazon, CBS, CBS Sports Network and NBA TV. WNBA League Pass also will stream over 200 live, out-of-market games. Additional streaming details for Meta platforms will be released later.

"The WNBA is coming off a 2024 season in which incredible basketball and countless memorable performances paved the way for the WNBA to deliver a record-breaking season," said WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement.

"Now, with so much excitement around the player movement that took place this winter through free agency and trades, the WNBA's broadcast and streaming partners in 2025 will spotlight the league's superstars, rising stars and must-see matchups like never before."

ABC starts with an opening weekend doubleheader May 17, with the last two WNBA champions, the Liberty and the Aces, leading it off. All three Aces-Liberty matchups - the others are July 8 and Aug. 13 -- will be on ABC or ESPN, featuring recent WNBA MVPs A'ja Wilson for Las Vegas and Breanna Stewart for New York.

The second part of the May 17 doubleheader is the Fever vs. the Chicago Sky, featuring last season's rookie stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. In all, the Fever and Sky meet five time: on ABC May 17 and 27, on CBS June 7 and Aug. 9, and on ION Sept. 5.

Last year's WNBA Finals participants, the Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx, will meet four times: on ESPN (July 30), ABC (Aug. 10), CBS (Aug. 16) and NBA TV (Aug. 19).

The league's newest team, the expansion Golden State Valkyries, will tip off their inaugural season May 16 on ION.

They're probably finally turn a profit now.  They lost $40M last year, but apparently their new deal will get them 4x more than the previous one.

They should give Clark $50M just for being in the league.  LOL  Without here, that deal is no where near that high.

Literally nobody watches it. They don't care how much money they lose. They are virtue signaling at a loss and sleep good at night. Whatever

That is all well and good but the WNBA may not even have a season next year. The players are talking about striking and the WNBA owners would just lock them out.

So they'll go from almost no viewers to no viewers?

Fine by me.  If they do this, they'll never recover the few viewers they had and we can finally be done with the charade.  No one cares about women's basketball - not even women.

In my experience guys like you who go on and on about other guys’ effeminate nature, and complain about trannies and gay people, are typically extremely insecure about their own masculinity.

People only want to watch CC

All the others sukkk!

ABC/ESPN can't understand the interest isn't in the WNBA, it's in Caitlan Clark.

Nobody will watch the games without CC.

DUH!

I don’t think this is going to work out the way they are thinking it will. Ratings, or lack there of, are going to be exposed at a broader level. Nobody is going to watch a game and think to themselves, “Wait, this is a pretty good product. Why haven’t I been watching before?”

Good for them honestly.   ESPN is a dying network it seems and there isnt a ton of competition in that point of the year.

I think the Clark intrigue will fade and the peak will be short.  It may have already peaked, yet now the players will start getting/demanding more money.  Not a great combo there.

I wish them luck.  I will continue to not watch as I dont find it very interesting.   Not only the games but on a nice summer evening, you wont catch me inside watching the WNBA.

Haven't you heard? They're just as good as the men, if not better.  Just ask the WNBA players. They'll tell you.

Basketball just isn’t a fun sport to watch women play. I feel like if this much money was put into a women’s volleyball or even baseball league it might actually be popular

The Fever will have 41 of their 44 games televised nationally this season.  That's awesome.  I'm looking forward to seeing what Clark can do in her second season.

Meanwhile, back in the other NBA that no one cares about . . . the average rating for a televised NBA game has been a long, steady decline from over 5.0 back in Jordan's prime and has recently plummeted to an all time low of 1.4.     Disney/ABC/ESPN continue to light shareholder money on fire, dumping $2.6B on the most recent deal, getting them the right to air 80 games.   🤣

and in the process, the NBA is losing the best thing about it.  NBA on TNT with Ernie, Chuck, Kenny and Shaq.

Seeing a ton of women bball players sprinkled into commercials during march madness and it makes me wonder who are the advertisers going for with that?  Most men dont like the WNBA and women don't watch it much at all.

It's just the DEI thing.  The groups you mentioned don't care if they include some women players, but they get points with the wokies for including them.

The women’s tournament is going on now as well. A lot of people watch both. Iowa plays tomorrow at 11am, in case you were interested. 😄

I will probably watch that until UConn comes on at 1pm ET and then switch to the WVU game at 2pm ET…
