Yes. At least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died and gave that right to me.

I’m proud to be an American and think we have the best country all things measured. The fight for second place is pretty far in the rear view.

That doesn’t mean that I’m not critical when we are fuckinng up. That’s part of keeping us at the top of the list. We get to do that,

Best country on the planet…. Yes we have our faults like all others, but I would never want to live outside of the United States….

Been asked if I want to see other countries, and I tell them I do not as why would I want to visit a country that isn’t the best…

I can understand that, but that is just something I never have wanted to do...

No, I’m blessed to live in America, and to be a Christian, but I do so with humbleness.  Destruction comes where pride lives

If you're not proud to be American, you're an a$$hole regardless of your race, religion, political bent, or gender (or lack thereof).

So your answer is yes @thegeneral.  Why so many Dems saying nope?

I’ll let the general tell me why.  I’m sure he has a reason other than OMB.

I’d be guessing. I would expect a good poll would have follow up questions that would give insight as to why people answered that way.

My guesses would be some combination of frustration with the direction the country is taking with issues like wealth inequality, corporate greed and its influence on our government, immigration, and that the leader of the political party in charge at the moment is so openly aggressive in his rhetoric against them.

Would also be curious how the questions were asked.

I'd say I'm proud of my country, but I'm not proud of some of the things we do. Witness the big beautiful bill that's going to righteously fock over millions of citizens as an example.

Who exactly did the inflation reduction act help?

Political independents’ pride has also reached a low point, with 53% expressing a great deal of pride, down seven points from last year, which had been the previous low for this group. Independents’ pride has been declining since the early 2000s, dropping below 80% for the first time in 2005, then below 70% in 2019 and below 60% this year.

I wondered why there was no link for this and as I suspected the OP is misleading

It is not true that only 36% of Democrats are proud to be an American.

The poll asked: How proud are you to be an American? There were 5 choices given

1) extremely proud

2) very proud

3) moderately proud

4) only a little proud

5) not at all proud

It turns out that 36% number of Democrats refers to those who said they were "extremely proud"

The OP makes it appear that 36% of Democrats said they were "not proud at all" and that is not what Gallup found.

I’m not familiar with the focking over part.  Who’s getting the goldmine and whose getting the shaft?

Of course I am. I’m not so proud about people that play on a message board all day while they are supposed to be working. And they have been for decades.

Didn’t see this poll was Gallup so googled that. It appears that it is largely a generational thing. Young people across both political party affiliation are much less likely to answer they are “very proud to be an American”. More young people identify as progressive or Dems so that skews the numbers for them.

The poll has this at the end:

These changes have occurred mostly over the past decade, and have done so amid greater pessimism about the economic prospects for young people, widespread dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, greater ideological divides between the parties, unfavorable images of both parties, and intense partisan rancor during the Trump and Biden administrations.

Pride Tumbles Among Democrats; Independents Also at a New Low

Democrats are mostly responsible for the drop in U.S. pride this year, with 36% saying they are extremely or very proud, down from 62% a year ago

No? Where are you getting your information from? There are a bunch of ways this will screw over those that aren't in the top 20% (or higher) earnings categories, but all we have to do is focus on the healthcare aspects to know the whole thing is a joke.

NPR

CBS

Reuters This one is good, I mean how can you not love some of this (if you hate other humans):

  • Bolsters eligibility verification measures for participants and healthcare providers and removes rules that make it easier to enroll
  • Blocks regulations that required minimum staffing levels at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • Repeals grant programs for purchasing electric heavy-duty vehicles
  • Repeals grants to reduce air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions
  • Restricts incentives for nuclear power
  • Cancels funding for green-energy grant programs in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, including vehicle manufacturing, home efficiency upgrades, electricity transmission and wind power
  • Weakens enforcement of fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles and pickup trucks
  • Increases law enforcement protection of the president LOLOLOL
  • Increases work requirements for some of the 41 million participants in the SNAP food aid program
  • Shift some costs from federal government to states

All of these delightful measure, plus many more, that add $3T plus to the debt. And this doesn't even include downstream effects like rural healthcare accessibility plummeting due to lack of funding, increased pollution and environmental toxicity leading to poorer health outcomes, the weakening of enforcement throughout all levels of government creating more opportunity for fraud and waste, etc.

But hey, me personally, I'll probably benefit by having my taxes lowered a few bucks, so at least I can afford a little more whiskey and weed to help me forget what's going on, which is cool.

All of this and they are totally against colonialism.

The flag doesn't represent freedom, but more oppression of minority groups, slavery, bad cops, capitalism, white men....I mean, the list goes on.

But when I hear my Dem friends talk, this is what they usually bring up.

Yes, I am proud to be American. I always have been, even as a child. I am one of those that gets weepy when the National Anthem is sung or played, and I stand and put my hand on my heart.
