Kaine has been very successful, politically, in an historically conservative and white state. Also he is obviously a white male in case you did not notice.

 

But more importantly, it's pretty obvious Clinton was going for someone who would actually be a good VP and potentially a viable president should that ever become necessary. I think she ought to get some credit for making a responsible choice rather than just picking someone for buzz.
