That actually is pretty exciting.. To be able to drill 16' into the crust, and have info relayed back - cool shiit.

How much did this cost? We could house homeless vets for less. :bandana:

Science is now considered fake news, so why anyone would pay this any mind or even believe it happened seems strange.

These things always turn out to have the coolest acronyms. You'd think sooner or later just by accident we'd send up the F U C K Lander.

Dumb. Swing and a miss.

Why do we give a fock? What exactly are we getting out of this?

I guess you would prefer they probe Uranus. :dunno:

Very minor knowledge about things we will never need from places we will never go to. But it’s still interesting. What’s the alternative, do nothing?

Learning that we can land a spacecraft on Mars is hardly minor knowledge. You have to walk before you can crawl, next we will be sending manned missions to Mars and a couple centuries later hopefully its fully colonized.

If mankind is to exist far, far into the future - it will more than likely have to be either in space, or another planet.

These early explorations are setting the groundwork for that possibility.

True, I’m just really bitter I won’t get to see it. It’s all I want, to see the actual future happen, not just slightly better iPhones.

It is tied into Climate Change. In 30 years the Earth will be burning up and we will all have to go there for the summer.

Would be hilarity

Just know that at some point, Musk will send people to mars and it will be a suicide mission. They will either kill each other on the way there or not survive the surface. After that, the space program will be set back and I wouldn’t expect further missions funded for foreseeable future. Gonna be a disaster.

Sure it did!!!

Other than "the Earth is round", I don't believe a thing NASA says about anything

I pity you for making a joke that stupid....before I could make it.

My 11 yr old recently pointed out that Uranus is funny no matter how your pronounce it.

Your Anus

Or

Urine Us

Either way works.

A question this stupid is why society sucks.

I'm betting you saw computers develop, internet, GPS, etc.. Not saying I personally like all the applications that were developed, I even dislike a ton of them, but the "future" happened in a short period of time on this planet over the past 25 years.

How much did this cost?

According to NASA, the InSight Lander project is currently running at $830 million. Is it worth it? Who knows, but I hope our Congressmen do because average Americans don't care.

Ask the next person you see if they think $830 million is worth it for the Mars lander project - 90% will say yes. Tell them it cost $2 billion - 90% will say yes. Tell them it cost $100 billion and still nobody cares. As long as you mention the word "space" it's a yes. People are idiots... and so are Congressmen. God save America, from ourselves.

So people are idiots? Meaning every person is an idiot? Meaning who cares what decision is made because it's made by an idiot? And people who comment on any decision is an idiot? So your comment is idiotic?

I believe that probe is scheduled to explore Uranus.

I know it's already been done in this thread, but I did it better.

Not so literal. But people are idiots when it comes to space spending. Too many Star Wars movies.

I'm for some space money, but Mars visits seem as pointless as the Moon visits. Cool pictures and all, but.... ok.

Its super cool to be the first person on mars. But soon after you will realize you are stuck on a planet with nothing to eat, an environment constantly trying to kill you, a million things that can and will go wrong with whatever equipment you have and basically no hope of retrieval and return to earth.

Now you look over at the people or person with you and start counting how many rations you have. If that person were gone youd have more food...hmmm. So you realize you are doomed and need to kill the others to preserve your own chances of survival. Thing is, if they are smart they have figured this out too and are plotting your murder as you think of all this.

I think about this a lot actually.

Your scenario applies to Earth too by the way.

100 years ago we were traveling on horseback. Now you're arguing about an unmanned spacecraft traveling 33 million miles and landing on a surface that has a 1000 mile diameter, with dozens of people thousands of miles away from each other, instantly, many of whom are using a device small enough to fit in their pocket. And you're complaining about it not being enough!
